Crush Davis is hurt

Dempsey was optimistic. He said the same thing happened to him. Dempsey thinks he just jammed his knee. Put some ice on it, he will be ok tomorrow.

I heard that, since it's Demper it probably means he is done for the year.:)

I do love Dempsey sometimes you can always count on him to find the bright side of any situation. I swear that man would find a way to make a nuclear missile coming directly at OPACY seem like not such a bad thing after all :) he does cheer me up at times

I wonder if we don't see a setup of Flaherty/Pearce at 1B. Call up Canzler to DH.

Against lefties:

1. Reimold - LF

2. Machado - 3B

3. Markakis - RF

4. Jones - CF

5. Wieters - C

6. Pearce - 1B

7. Hardy - SS

8. Canzler - DH

9. Casilla - 2B

Against righties:

1. McLouth - LF

2. Machado - 3B

3. Markakis - RF

4. Jones - CF

5. Wieters - C

6. Canzler - DH

7. Hardy - SS

8. Flaherty - 1B

9. Casilla - 2B

Canzler has shown he can hit righties and lefties in the minors.

I would think about Markakis going to first myself. That allows McLouth to play everyday. I wouldn't want both Canzler and Pearce in the lineup at the same time. You can play Dickerson in RF vs righties.

FWIW, I'm pretty high on Canzler. Good OBP, good pop. Career 876 OPS at AAA. He's had 3 900+ OPS seasons in the last 4 in AAA (including this year).

Obviously the issue with Canzler is his glove. But can hit lefties and righties. He'll strike out a bit (not 200, but more along the lines of 150), but good power and patience. Basically a Mark Reynolds light. That has a place on this club.

Ideally you have Betemit and Canzler or Betemit and Valencia, but Betemit is out.

Having both Flaherty and Casilla on the roster are hurting this club since neither are hitting. Then you have redundancy in the OF with Dickerson and Pearce. I guess Pearce was up here in case of emergency at 1B as well as the OF.

Right. Was thinking that Chris, even though he didn't say specifically, was passing along the trainers' opinion based on their feeling around the knee. But who knows.

I don't recall a game in my life where I was less concerned about winning than tonight.

Duh! And who DH's? You disrupt two positions. Reimold would get most of the time in RF and we know he's not a good OF. We have no idea what Markakis will do as a full time 1B. He might be lousy. He'd basically be learning on the job. The easiest solution is just to put Pearce at 1B, Reimold at DH, and McLouth in LF. Even though he hasn't hit much in Norfolk, I would not be shocked if the O's called up Ishikawa for his defense off the bench and to spot start him.

In the post game, Buck did mention "Nicky" as one of the options to play first base. I think he'd be fine there personally. I'd rather see Pearce playing as little as possible against RHP. Hopefully Davis only misses a game or two..... if that.

Just listened to Chris Davis talk about the injury. He seems to think there is nothing structurally wrong. Will get the MRI to be sure but he hopes it will only be a day or two.

Thats really encouraging. Glad to hear that. Even if it takes a week or two I can live with that. Just nothing that will keep him out longterm please.

    • Nobody put words in your mouth.  I asked you questions.  That you can't answer them should suggest to you how thought out our positions are. 1) The goal is the World Series.  What makes you think it isn't? 2)  That's the most generic statement possible that is impossible to analyze, 3) So Elfin, Burnes, Bradish, Cano, etc.  don't count because you don't want them to count.  But other than that, he's got a bad track record of trading..... .like what trade?  Are we all supposed to go insane and only evaluate one trade- the Rodgers trade- in the most hyperbolic terms necessary to justify our hyperbole? 4) So we judge him for hypothetical trades that we didn't make and can't even be analyzed?  LOL. Flaherty was a worthless trade?  This is the same Flaherty that started Game 1 of the World Series this year, right? Oh, so you just want to cry about Rodgers ad nauseum?  Cry ahead. So you want to fire the most successful GM we've had since Pat Gillick but you haven't even thought about who'd you replace him with?  And wouldn't even bothered until he was fired?  You understand how stupid that is, right?
    • I think he’s all in. That’s why I have hope that he will resign Burnes and add some veteran offensive a talent to help the team play better in October
    • This is as plausible a theory as any other that has been trotted out since the end of the regular season and it's one I fully subscribe to. Personally however, I think restraint is advisable when it comes to comparing his historical business leadership to his newfound role as 75 year-old billionaire owner of a a sports franchise.  Especially given his demonstrated propensity for dancing on the home team dugout during the seventh inning stretch.
    • Noted … I’d much rather have Teoscar. They would need to determine if Profar is the 2024 player or prior.
    • Stop putting words in my mouth!    1) The goal needs to be the World Series 2) We need to spend wisely …but we need to spend 3) Oh Stop ….i gave him credit for Eflin and Burnes. The others were during the rebuild and selling trades. Which I said in my response to you,  4) It’s not one trade …. He’s tried to get help2 deadlines now. Beyond Eflin at two deadlines he’s done little to help the team reach the ultimate goal.    His moves in 2023 were Jack Flaherty who was basically worthless and Fuji who was so inconsistent that he’s not even pitching in the majors. Did I forget anyone? He did little to help an offense that was struggling mightily in 2024. He gave a lot away this deadline. They got Eflin but most everything else was mediocre or worse. The Rogers deal was just horrible. And why was he shopping in the bargain bin pile. Rogers was a 4.5 ERA starter before the trade which really wasn’t an upgrade and he crapped the bed after he got here.    I’m undecided over who I’d go after to replace Elias when the times comes.
