I mentioned this in the game thread last night.

How do you feel about giving Cruz a QO?

If he doesn't heat back up then I get worried he takes it this time.

I really don't want him back next season at twice the AAV.

Which is why I could never be the GM, too nerve racking.

Cruz put this team on his back the first half. It's time for Davis and the other cast of underachievers to step up.

I'm ready to bench Cruz for a bit until he shows he's got his mojo back. Thanks for the half season. ;)

So...play Davis, but bench Cruz?

Unfortunately, if the O's benched everyone who isn't hitting well, they'd only have five guys playing at any given time. And not the ones with delicious, heart-destroying burgers.

Still think Cruz is getting a $20 million+ per year, multiyear contract this winter?

3 years 18 TO 20M a year yes. Look around the league power bats are hard to find right now.

Beltran got 3/45. Nelson's not getting that much (notwithstanding the fact that you didn't actually answer my question) unless he goes on a tear between now and October (i.e, another 10-15 HR...at least). .260-something with ~33 HR isn't going to get him $18-20 million annually. Not at his age, and with his glove.

Those numbers are pretty bad. There are basically 3 to 4 automatic outs in the lineup. Not good for a team looking to win the AL East.
