The team is 33-20 (.623) in that timeframe. It's been Jones and Manny carrying the offense. Pearce had a strong June (1.099 OPS) and a weak July (.681 OPS). He was not alone. It's counter-intuitive that as a team they hit worse in July (.681 OPS) than in June (.784 OPS, best month in the season to date) and yet had a much better July record than June.

July numbers

The better record was because of the pitching.

Real simple. He's trying to yank every pitch. Start driving balls to RCF and he will be back on track. Right now everything is flying open when he swings.

That's true for half the team. No strike zone recognition, no plate discipline, just poor thought processes in regards to hitting. Go back to the Rogers Hornsby and Ted Williams school of hitting, get a good pitch to hit. It's as simple as that.

We get to see it several times every time through the lineup. What does our hitting coach do again?

He does not change MLB Free agent signings hitting style or swing. Especially when they have 289 home runs. Hitting coaches mostly wait.

Not to worried about it. Guys have ups and downs. Right now Cruz is scuffling some but he could a month from now be red hot again. No choice but to ride the pony and hope for the best. Same goes for Davis...

I say give him a week off. It would be good for him. Did wonders for Manny.

Would prefer giving him say 2 out of 3 games or 3 out of 5 off and see if he responds to that first. Everyone struggles at times. A little extra rest certainly could not hurt though
