I had to ketchup first on all the posts. As I relish competition, I mustard up the courage to watch the race, and (ballpark) frankly never sausage a pathetic ‘race’ as this, though the kraut went wild. They should feel ashamed to stand in the Wiener’s Circle.
There is also a smaller market (supply and demand). The supply is low right now because not many players are available right now. You don't know who might be available later, including an injury. For example, a contending team needing IF help theoretically can get Bichette now or wait till later and see who else is available, but you also have to compete with more teams for him. Get in now with a good offer before other teams jump in.
To me, Mateo is the perfect bench guy. Great speed to pinch run in later innings. Defensive replacement late in games. Won't hurt you if he has to start for several weeks if you get a long term injury to a starter. Urias is the one that I see with diminishing skills down the road and might be the first to go. I would hope we could get something for him at the deadline.
Have Joey Ortiz and Darrell Hernaiz (Cole Irvin) been mentioned here? Certainly those are important after 1st round picks, along with Stowers, Gunnar, etc.
There are plenty of teams that suspect they will contend and will prefer an earlier deal to have the player longer. So, in some cases you might get more. Of course, in other cases waiting could create a deadline frenzy.
Unless injuries force your hand and your AAA staff is hot dog water, bullpen games should only ever be the day before a scheduled day off.
I don't know what Schneider was thinking doing a bullpen game for game 2 of a 4 game series.
