This. Mayo’s wRC+ is 546th out of 554 batters with more than 30 PA’s, while his K% is 4th highest out of those 554 batters. Holliday’s wRC+ is 361st out of 368 batters with more than 180 PA’s, while his K% is 8th out of those 368 batters. They are small sample sizes, but Cowser and Rutschman struggled to similar extents when they came up. Norby was awful here too and then immediately started hitting well after the trade. It’s normal to struggle, but not to this extent. -

It's amazing to me how many folks think that it's easy to be a good first baseman. This ain't beer league softball. O'Hearn isn't good, Mayo isn't good right now. -

Ya I think there is perhaps something to this. Edgar Martinez took over hitting coach responsibilities a few weeks ago when Servais was let go. Very small sample size but they’ve had some improvement on their beyond anemic offense. He obviously teaches a very old school approach and said something to the effect of “no amount of launch angle can fix a bad swing” im reminded of watching Cal when I was growing up how often he would change his stance when he was in a bit of a slump. Now that he has a partial ownership stake in the team, it may make some sense to lean on him for input. -

I'm honestly starting to get worried about guys like Adley and our prospects. If these guys don't pan out we aren't going to be a successful franchise for a while. There's no reason why the offense should be this bad right now. -
Say what you will about Mouncastle's consistency at the plate. Compared to anyone else on the team he's by far our best fielding 1st baseman. Not even close. Every short hop with O'Hearn is an adventure.
