Glad Bowie won. Yaz had an up and down year but should still Norfolk next year. Right now the O's have a ton of relievers and 4th OF types in the upper minors.

I doubt they keep all the 4A OF around next season, and hopefully, that frees up some roster movement for the guys deserving to move from AA up.

Good for little/young Yastrzemski.

Tony Pente had this to say about him in an interview last month:

PRESS BOX:O You know we're getting old when we are talking about a guy whose grandfather we remember well ...... Mike Yastrzemski.

TONY:O Yastrzemski is a guy that really stepped up last season. He had a great college career at Vanderbilt. He's not a great "toosly" guy ...... not a guy that the souts go out and fall in love with. BUT, if you watch the guy over a long period of time (140 or 150 games), you realize that he's a guy that can help you. He's a great defensive outfielder. He has a little bit of pop, he hits the ball to all fields. He's a guy that I can see eventually becoming perhaps a 4th outfielder, and help a ball club.

I hope Tony's right, Patrick.

Me too.

It would be great to have a Yaz on our side.

And as Redskins Rick said, reports are that he hustles all of the time, similar to Nolan Reimold.

Outfielder Mike Yastrzemski is not going to be ready for opening day, and will begin the season in Florida at extended spring training. Yastrzemski had some pretty extensive core and hip labrum surgery repairs over the winter. The Orioles are being conservative with him right now, and an extended spring will basically serve as his spring training. No date has been established for Yastrzemski to play in the regular season.

Last year between Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk, Yastrzemski hit .234/.325/.391 with 13 homers and 59 RBI's in 127 games.

“That surgery was more extensive that we knew going in,” Graham said. “But his rehab is going very well. He took live BP today, and is doing his workouts with the strength and conditioning coaches.

The Branden Kline part is bad news.

"

Right-handed pitcher Branden Kline, who had Tommy John surgery on Oct. 8, 2015, needed a follow-up arthroscopic procedure last week. The Orioles’ second-round pick in 2012 out of the University of Virginia, Kline has not pitched since going 3-3 with a 3.66 ERA in eight starts early in the 2015 season for Double-A Bowie.

His Tommy John rehab and comeback was going very well, but then he felt some discomfort just prior to reporting to spring training during his throwing program at his home. He had soft tissue cleaned out of his right elbow. He could resume a throwing program in three to four weeks.

Orioles doctors saw Kline at spring training and sent him back to see Dr. James Andrews, who performed his elbow ligament reconstruction in 2015, and it led to this follow-up procedure.

“He is obviously going to be behind (the rest of the pitchers),” Orioles director of player development Brian Graham said this afternoon at Twin Lakes Park. “He is three to four weeks away from a throwing program. Then you go from that program to bullpens and live BPs. It’s a progression. But there is no structural damage, it was cleanup they needed to do. There is no timetable yet for when he gets in a game.”

    • People are being a bit ridiculous with the holier than thou takes criticizing a little humor. I am not saying what happened couldn’t cause a significant concussion, but it would be a bit of a fluke if it did. Mullins barely hit him with the bat and he had a helmet on. The fact that it was in the back of the head did make him more vulnerable, but this wasn’t the type of thing you see and think he was lucky to be alive.  Guys have probably hit their heads harder on the top of the dugout or on the fence making catches.  And note this comes from someone whose son has suffered severe concussions and who is well aware of the dangers associated with them. In short, people need to lighten up a bit on guys like Roy.  It was a little gallows humor.
    • Yeah, you read that wrong. LA2 is one of my favorite posters here and he knows it. No harm, no foul. If you aren't familiar with the game threads, it doesn't matter what the team is doing, people complain about it and people did make that same joke in the game thread long before Roy said it here. Game thread in summary - when the O's are not doing well, it's insufferable, when they are doing well, it's mildly less insufferable. There, that wasn't hard. I'd appreciate it if you didn't assume I'm throwing shade at people. I'll leave that up to you to do, you're really good at it.
    • Comp a. Like Gunnar, and beavers…
    • Wasn't Westburg a 2nd round draft pick?  It's a little early to judge last year's draft.
    • Before Elias.  They generally haven’t missed on a 1st round or 1st round comp pick with the position players.   I trust they’ll make a good decision at #22 and #32.   Their track record in rounds 2-4, particularly on college position players and specifically the last three drafts is suspect.
    • Anyone want to guess what it would take to get Crochet from the White Sox?  We could send SG over to ask politely and remind them of what they missed out on Ortiz.  I'm sure that wouldn't stir up a hornet's nest.
