Snider is a chance worth taking. He came up at the age of 20 with a fair amount of hype. He has been up and down, but he is just 26. There are a ton of guys with his profile that have ended up finding it a bit later in life.

If he had options, then sure. But he doesn't. He is stuck on the major league roster as a low performing 4th outfielder. Not an upgrade for the O's. And he has to beat out Lough for the 4th outfielder role.

Matusz is stuck in the Majors too. He is flat out awful i will take Snider over Matusz everyday.

Snider's numbers to not fit well in the DH role. He is 4th outfielder.

If he hits like he did last season, then he works at as a part-time or platoon DH depending on how it shakes out. Clearly part of the idea behind acquiring Snider would be that he's starting to come into his own and will improve on his past performance during his age 27 season. There is potential upside there that I am sure the Orioles would be taking into account. Snider to this point in his career is a 4th OF. There is certainly enough upside to think he *might* be able to provide more value.

In any event, if the Orioles traded for Snider and signed a right-handed hitter (Morse, Young, Denorfia) as well, they would have plenty of other options. If Snider didn't hit, he could easily move into an even more limited role than a platoon DH role.

For Matusz, I definitely agree with this. I'd be excited about this trade.

On a side note, I read that he's getting married this weekend and a bunch of Bucs are skipping Fanfest to attend.

Matusz is not awful. He is a decent LOOGY. Buck just wants a lefty who can get out righties and lefties and that his not Matusz. I am fine with trading Matusz. Just don't trade for a guy that will not help the O's. Trade Matusz for a minor league that could ride the shuttle. That is not Snider.

Sounds very encouraging.

I am not a fan of Byrd. Young would be OK in the same part-time role he had here.

Morse could be interesting, but the guy doesn't play enough and is strictly a DH, despite his desire to play the field.

I'd be more intrigued with a Lough/Pearce platoon in one outfield slot, and someone not yet mentioned in another. I don't know who that other person would be, but none of the names I've heard are very intriguing.

What team is going to give up a player with options and upside for $2.7M of Matusz? This trade appears fair for both sides. We basically have 6 spots for OF and DH. There are places to fit these guys in and you have guys in that mix like Pearce, Lough, and possibly Morse who have injury concerns. I'd jump on this deal.

You know that there is a strong chance that the Orioles are going to fill the two position player spots (righty and lefty DH/OF) with low risk, upside players. All I am saying is that Snider potentially meets that criteria. The part about how he can easily have his role reduced further if he doesn't hit was meant to demonstrate that the positive of building a team with lower salary, low risk players is if one doesn't perform he can have his role reduced and hopefully another of those guys will step up. If the Orioles are paying Cabrera, Aoki, Morse, Rasmus, or whomever else to fill one of those spots, they are going to have a much longer leash. That flexibility to move away from a struggling player isn't quite there. That was the point.

Like I said, I do imagine if the O's acquired Snider, they would at least be confident that they can get 2014-level production out of him which is good production given the cost it will take to acquire him. I am not even campaigning for Snider, I just don't think its as clearly wrong of a move as you seem to.

Plus the O's would save 700,000 on the deal to throw at a free agent. Good. Move.

I am not a fan of pretty much any name I have heard. Ugh. I am starting to think we made a mistake by not resigning Nick given these putrid options.

I assumed DD had a plan, he obviously does not.

It's not Nick that is going to be a problem replacing; it's Cruz. Nick will be replaced by Pearce/Lough, DeAza will be the LF, as he was for the playoffs. It's the question of who will man the DH spot? How will we replace that production?
