And that's why they call them Mounties.
...inept botching of an executive search has never been explained by anyone in the Rogers offices. Questions about the phone calls, including who even made them, and if that person was disciplined over it, were first dismissed by Rogers public-relations staff as rumours, despite Williams being on the record that he was approached, and that Reinsdorf did not grant him permission to deal any further with whomever was on the other end of the phone. Rogers also wouldn’t comment on Beeston’s situation, even with some kind of rote discussions-are-ongoing line of obfuscation that would have at least made it look as though the team didn’t suddenly drop the long-time president like he was on fire.

Is that the photo that inspired the lumberjack song?

:D

For the Blue Jays, this is akin to contemplating a new set of snow tires for a vehicle that is presently in flames. The Blue Jays, as was widely noted when the Kansas City Royals made it to the post-season last fall, have the longest playoff drought not just in baseball, but in any of the major North American sports. They revamped a roster two years ago in a bold move that flopped, then mostly stood pat for 2014, which turned into a seriously wasted opportunity when the American League East powerhouses cratered.

New tires.

Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred wanted to see the Duquette-to-Toronto move, and if true it is probably not a coincidence that Beeston was not among Manfred’s supporters when a new MLB boss was appointed.

Intrigue.

...the Rogers hierarchy started placing mysterious phone calls, to the Chicago White Sox about executive vice-president Ken Williams — or rather to Williams himself — and to the Baltimore Orioles about Dan Duquette, a vice-president and general manager in that organization.

The Phone calls!

If this is to be believed...then it's been a move that's been discussed going back as far as July. Manfred was elected the new commissioner August 14th. Does it add up?

Ed Rogers has been on a wild ride for quite a while if you read the press. He makes Rob Ford appear to be a natural choice as mayor for his city. I have no idea, but there certainly is talk of this. It would seem that if Duquette were to leave, that Angelos might actually get to own MLB entirely before he leaves this life.

The MASN Arb panel makeup, contact with the new commissioner and ruling, the MASN dispute, the Yankee meeting and recommendation, the Chris Davis test, the All Star game, the election of a new commissioner, which was opposed by Jerry Reinsdorf, the phone calls to Williams, the continued court case... It's a conspiracy theorist's heaven.

Is there a timeline on when the conversation with the Yankees' front office took place?

I think all the time lines appear to be murky. I do know that the phone calls to Williams were during the World Series. So it obviously preceded that. The December timeline stuff was simply the reporters stepping over each other to talk about it. The intrigue appeared to have occurred before.

As to someone who spoke to the press about their unwillingness to pursue a promotion...

Exactly. DD making a statement to the press means nothing and wouldn't put anything to bed. It's similar to when ownership publicly support a struggling coach/manager and then he's fired a week later.

I think the two situations are a little different. Gary made those statements, then his dream job opened up. Also, the ravens can't stop him from going, so there can be no source for ill will. However, Dan can't just go take the job, unless the Orioles say he can. If they don't, then this story is over. Dan can come out and support the os. Then, there can't be all the speculation that Dan wants to leave. The nah reason this is a story, and feels shady, is because Toronto keeps floating stuff out there, and Dan has not done his part to easily put it to bed.
