Maryland lands Diamond Stone

I'm riding high right now off Stone...I want both Lee and Newman.

Newman would really fit in perfectly.

I think it's hilarious that the state of Wisconsin has 2 elite center prospects, and Wisconsin fans thought they'd get both for sure. They got neither. The other guy went to Marquette.

Seen a lot of Wiscy fans say that they didn't really care because Ryan doesn't want those guys and can win without them. I said MD fans said the same thing from about 1988-2011.

I don't doubt that he'll win without them. I'd be afraid to see what Bo Ryan could do with 2 Elite centers.

Maryland did win a title in that period.

Not sure how many titles a program like Maryland is supposed to win in that time span.

One seems pretty fair to me, maybe two.

I would have loved to have some big recruits, you know at least occasionally, but Gary really seemed to get more out of the lesser known guys and continue to win. It just seemed like GW went out of his way to avoid AAU and Baltimore in general.

Also I have no problem with Ryan and fully expect them to be a tough team always. That being said I also think it's great that MD is finally now the team that has stolen a player from the in state local school.

They might not have been big recruits but Smith and Francis sure went high in the draft.

And yes Gary did refuse to play the AAU game.

Smith was actually considered a project when he signed with Maryland. His senior year he grew a couple more inches and tacked on the muscle to then really open some eyes.

Stevie would fit the profile if he hadn't been at ACC for 2 years already. I saw him play a couple times before he headed to Maryland and you just knew he was legit within minutes of watching him. I once saw him hit a game winning alley oop 3 pointer to stay undefeated on the year.

I think the move to the Big 10 paid off big-time here. I doubt if Maryland would have been on Stone's radar if they were still in the ACC. Now the Terps have a real shot at a Final Four appearance next year, which could lead to additional blue chip recruits.

I'm not sure I know what that looks like after watching last year's big men play at MD. lol

Nothing drove me crazier than all those missed rebounds.

They may score a ton next year but they still have to minimize the second and third opportunities that so many opponents got last year. Soo many times I wanted to throw things at them through the tv.

Stone passed my fully scientific eye test during a "highly competitive" game. I'm genuinely excited to see what this team can do next year.

I'm thinking that Carter will be a huge assist on the boards as well.
