Regretting Not Signing Andrew Miller?

Thanks for posting that link; it is a better place for a detailed discussion of what's going on with the Astros. In any event, going back to Miller, it is understandable if, last offseason, he preferred 4/$36 from the Yankees to 4/$40 from Houston, based on the two teams' track records. And even if Houston is now poised for some success, their handling of certain player situations as discussed in the thread you posted may have alienated some players from wanting to go there.

The Vegas odds for winning the WS is set at:

Yankees - 25/1

Houston - 66/1

Note: Houston went 14-2 and quickly went from 66/1 to 20/1.

(Orioles were at 20-1)

Jose Mesa, Stu Miller, keep the names coming. None of them have the stuff that Miller does. I have been saying it since last September. What did this organization do to try to improve the team to get to the ultimate prize the World Series? Nothing!!!!

I want to win a World Series. Until this organization puts the resources necessary to win a championship I will continue posting

It feels like the team is in a massive funk.

When the bats are hot, the pitching is shaky.

When the pitching is solid, the bats go silent or a massive error is made.

While it's still "early" in the season, losing so many games will eventually catch up to them.

Please do. Every few days I forget that Championships are the goal, and I fall into really, desperately wanting a 62-win season with a bunch of firings.

The firings. Those are the best. And the rumors of the firings. I love them also.

It feels like the team is in a massive funk.

Were they in a massive funk three days ago when they had won 4 of their previous 5 games?

Three losses make a massive funk? How many wins do they need to get out of it?

If we still had Miller he'd be pitching the 8th inning in games in which we were winning or were tied or maybe down by a run.

I've gone back through every box score so far this season. The bullpen has given up 8th inning runs in five games. In none of those games did those runs change the outcome of the game. So, no, I don't miss Miller.

The best stuff of any releifer in O's history. I got destroyed on this board this winter when I said that. Who is doubting me now? Once again this club did NOTHING to improve themselves in the off season.

Seriously? Destroyed? Please bring up those threads?

Just curious, how many runs did our bullpen allow today? How many games have we lost when we were leading going into the eighth inning?

Miller would have pitched in that game where Tommy Hunter gave up a grand slam to Stephen Drew. Still baffled at how the Orioles lost that game.

But do you think the club did anything to improve themselves in the off season?

    • Baring injury Adley gets more War. Who do you want up to bat in a winner take all playoff game? Who do you want behind the plate with a Rickey Henderson type on first base in a tie ballgame 9th inning? I really bought into the switch hitting Jesus thing with Wieters.  This disappointment (perhaps misguided) led me to really not want to use a 1/1 draft pick on a catcher.   I am kind of wishing we went with Witt.   I think I heard people saying the most important position on defense is catcher.  So how does it compare to SS or Centerfield.   Would you be better off using Rick Dempsey type all glove and arm with light bat or going all in on a 1/1 on a catcher? If this has already been discussed tons dont yell at me I sometimes go months or weeks without posting.
    • Glad Bob Melvin and I don’t see eye to eye on that issue Well said, that make two of us, Bunting Ced down 5-3 with nobody out that late in the game is absurd.
    • Sorry to hear this--wishing you a sound recovery, in time for the O's run to the Series! (That would speed up the healing!)
    • Santander is a good case for the Rule V draft. That's unfortunately the same system that's going to make his next contract potentially look bad. If only he were a couple of years younger. It's hard to commit 25+M to a player at 30+. He's going to be missed in Baltimore, on the field and by the fans, but he's someone that they're going to have to let move on.
    • While I agree and find your comment funny, maybe just say something along the line of”Don’t give up on this team” or “Quite being Debbie downers” instead of assuming they are projecting the own misery in their lives. People might take it better if it doesn’t feel like a personal attack. Either way, that win felt good and I HOPE this is finally the turning point going into the playoffs soon.
    • I've made it clear that if they don't sign Santa and Burnes I'm ok with it as long as the money is allocated to other players they feel that fits their profile better .You know you have people on here like SG who only hears what he wants to hear. I need to learn to ignore that guy.
