Who was better? Davy Johnson or Buck Showalter.

Hard to say but Johnson had better talent to work with IMO. Buck was also starting with a much deeper hole to dig from. The O's had a playoff drought when Davey was hired too but while the team had been 71-73 under Phil Regan, 1992-1994 had been winning seasons. Ultimately I'd go with Buck but Johnson was no slouch. O's managers historically gotta be: Earl, Buck, and Davey.

Buck, no contest.

Davey was a fine manager, but was handed a truckload of talent back in Angelos' spend happy days. He was playing with a stacked deck.

Buck was given a team that was in shambles (other than some slight glimpses of optimism such as the Seattle trade.) That 2010 team was horrible and things changed almost literally overnight once Buck took over.

Buck helped build a winning, confident clubhouse atmosphere that I think still exists today (this past season's struggles notwithstanding).

He's arguably the second greatest manager to wear the Orange and Black in my opinion.
