Low A RHP

Make that 3 new players added to the farm.

The Cincinnati Reds have reportedly traded right handed pitcher Franderlin Romero to the Baltimore Orioles, according to Dayton Dragons broadcaster Tom Nichols, who was relayed the information pre-game by Dragons pitching coach Derrin Ebert.

The 23-year-old right hander had been having plenty of success for the Dragons thus far in 2016. He had posted a 2.87 ERA over the span of eight starts for Dayton. In 47.0 innings he had allowed 46 hits and nine walks to go along with 42 strikeouts. 12 of those strikeouts came in the same game, a 7.2 inning start against Kane County in which he took a perfect game into the 8th inning before allowing a hit with two outs to the final batter that he faced.

The Orioles have acquired RHP Franderlyn Romero from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for two International Signing Bonus slots.

Trading away draft picks and international bonus slots for other teams Minor Leaguers that we (presumably) believe they are undervaluing is an interesting strategy. Obviously the Chris Lee pickup last season is showing some promise. We'll see how this strategy pays off over the years. Clearly, not a lot of other teams doing this.

Romero at 23 in Low A is old for his league, though it does look like he lost much of 2014 presumably to injury (BA stats show only two games pitched at two levels).

Mods may want to correct the spelling of his first name to "Franderlyn" so folks can find him.

Yeah, he's old for A ball. Don't like this move at all either on the surface. Maybe someone smarter than us has some insight.

If the O's were unexpectedly greatly exceed their international signing bonus pool this year, would trading 2 international slots stop them from doing this? I'm not expecting the O's to sign any major international players, but just wondering if trading these slots would stop them from blowing past their international limit.
