The Delmarva Shorebirds are proud to announce that pitcher Ofelky Peralta has been named the South Atlantic League?s Pitcher of the Week for July 4-10. This marks the second consecutive week in which a Shorebirds pitcher has earned the honor.

It should come as no surprise that the 19-year-old native of Bonao in the Dominican Republic was given the award, as the threw a rain-shortened no-hitter on Friday, July 8 against the Hagerstown Suns. In the outing, he allowed just one walk while racking up eight strikeouts at the time of the game?s finish in the bottom of the 5th.

As of July 11, he boasts a 5-4 record and a 3.45 ERA in 16 starts. He hasn?t allowed a run in his last two starts, a span of 11 innings. Peralta also has 75 strikeouts in 75.2 innings, and he has racked up at least seven strikeouts in four of his outings in 2016. He entered the season as the Orioles? 17th-best prospect according to Baseball America.

Peralta joins Cristian Alvarado (June 27-July 3) as Delmarva?s winners of this award in 2016. The pair are in a class of four players to win weekly honors from the SAL, as Ryan Mountcastle and Yermin Mercedes (two times) have been previous Player of the Week winners.

o

5 free passes (all walks) in 5 innings.

In the 2nd inning, he walked 3 consecutive batters on 14 pitches (2 strikes, 12 balls.)

Perlata appears to be very talented, and very inconsistent ...... which (in my rat's ass of an opinion) is fine for a 19 year-old pitcher at the Regular-A level of the minor leagues.
