As long as he doesn't call for the fastball down the middle in an 0-2 count.  My biggest complaint with Matt was that he set up to much in the middle of the plate at times when we were up in the count 0-2 or 1-2.  Granted the pitcher makes the location just wish he would have moved off the corners more when ahead.

If Manny goes somewhere, it will be a large payroll team that can shell out the 400 million.

Not sure the Braves fit that definition.

Was a joke.  I wouldn't put the Braves, and that new stadium, in the group that would be incapable of handing out that kind of contract (not that I think they would).

That's a great deal for the Orioles. I'm going to have to hear some of Duquette's bashers give him credit here. It also pretty much confirms the Orioles really didn't want Wieters to take the QO last year.

Unfortunately, you wont see any DD basher give him, his credit due. They only like to beat him up.

Let me ask a question: if Player A is non-tendered by his team when he could be retained for about $6 mm, and then is signed by another team to a one-year deal with a player option for a second year, and Player B ends up signing a 2-3 year deal at about double the annual salary of the other guy, do you really expect them to have equal production?    I realize their stats have been relatively close, but I don't think other GM's are that stupid.    I think Castillo adequately fills the hole left by Wieters, but he is a downgrade IMO.

Yeah, I'd agree that Castillo is a downgrade from Wieters, but not a big one.  They are comparable players, and it certainly appears that we're getting the less costly one.  The money difference seems greater than the likely production difference, IMO.  Hopefully we use that money for an upgrade elsewhere.

    • Funny thing is, if the O's win, I'm generally so psyched on my way out that I don't even notice all of these annoyances. I'm just happy that the team won. That was my experience a lot this year when the team was doing well. Unfortunately about half of my 13 game season ticket plan was in August and September, plus I got to watch one of the pathetic WC games. You can smooth over a fair bit of fan annoyance with winning, but at the end of the day, someone has to care about the little things and actually invest money to make them better. There's no longer any question about whether the O's will be here to stay. The government and the team are aligned: OPACY and the Orioles are here, and we're going to make the best of what we have, and make it a centerpiece of Baltimore. That's great. But now they have to put their money where their mouths are. Show fans from all walks of life that we are able to reimagine OPACY and the surrounding area in the image of an efficient, clean, 21st century facility, starting with things as basic as infrastructure and plumbing, and ranging as far as parking, public trans, and food at the park. Honestly? I sort-of understood why they weren't investing in anything in the years when (1) the team was bad, and (2) ownership wasn't invested in the team, and (3) the renewal of the lease with the Maryland Stadium Authority was in doubt. The vast majority of points (1), (2) and (3) above are now non-issues, or have been majorly mitigated in the past 2 years. So it's time to make things right. Otherwise why bother with the long-term commitment at all, if you're just going to let the project languish?

    • I still think Soto (Juan, not any of the others) checks off all the boxes here.  Insanely productive, plays hard, can rub opponents the wrong way on the field but is generally liked off of it.
    • We're not a mid-market team. Small market for sure.
    • Things looking bleak for KC. They left 11 runners on base, got a taste of their own medicine, I guess.
