Smith at DH last night, now out of the lineup vs a righty.

I'm guessing he has some sort of injury they aren't telling us about.

Buck has not accepted the fact that the WC chance has passed by. I have no interest in seeing Rickard over Hayes at the moment.

Hays, not Hayes.    Though I'd probably rather see Hayes than Rickard, regardless of who Hayes is.

I hate starting rickard less now that the wild card is mostly out of reach, because it doesn't hurt the team as bad. If you are trying to compete and you are starting Rickard, you are doing it wrong.

Buck is going to keep trotting out the same mediocre until we are mathematically eliminated, or close to it.

Tough to imagine this is what Duquette intended when he called Hays up.  Another disconnect with Buck and the FO it seems.

I'm actually presently surprised he moved Davis and Trumbo down in the order in favor of Mancini.  Keeping those guys in the 4 and 5 hole for the entire season, despite performance would seem a more likely thing for him to do. So he gets credit there.

Has the media asked about Trumbo in the outfield over Hays?

Or why he can't get time over someone like Rickard?

As far as I've heard, the media just perpetuates the misconception that playing youngsters is giving up on the season. On the contrary, playing sub-replacement level veterans is giving up in my eyes.

I will attempt to answer for Buck:

Joey grinds it.

He has worked hard getting back into playing shape.

I have been trying to get him some at bats

All meaning, Buck weighs having the back of his veterans (no matter how mediocre they might be) over seeing the dude who will probably be starting next year....even if he is probably actually better right now.

If Hays could pitch, now that would be a different matter.

I'll grind it, but I shouldn't be playing for an MLB team.  It doesn't help the argument that Hays is one of the most old school effort players in the minors.
