I wrote a letter to John Angelos concerning my feelings on the state of the Orioles and the impending decisions on GM/Management.  However,  I've yet to send it. I'm not sure it'll matter, and moreover I haven't got an email address. I reached out to John on Twitter but have yet to hear back from him.

I wonder if anyone in the front office reads this site?  I imagine they do, but I may be imagining things. ?

Wouldn't Tony know how to get in touch with him?

I’m staying a fan no matter what.   But my level of enthusiasm and interest could vary dramatically based on how this is handled.

I'm just tired those idiots in charge not making any changes. The longer this plays the more things will stay the same. IMO

Like it or not I think Brady is a given. I think Dan would have a freer hand than any new hire GM. He seems to have developed some respect from the Angelbros. Depends on how much power Brady gets. If Dan can deal with it he's our best bet IMO. I think Buck will retire.

UB Law is a good place to go if you want to be a player in MD politics.

An alumni body of approximately 13,000 includes many prominent figures, including Peter Angelos, owner of the Baltimore Orioles; Maryland's former first lady, the Hon. Catherine Curran O'Malley; Thomas Condon, widely considered the most powerful agent in professional football; and U.S. Rep. C.A. "Dutch" Ruppersberger III. More than one-third of Maryland's sitting judges are UB School of Law graduates, and the number of University of Baltimore law alumni who serve as Maryland elected officials is second only to that of the University of Maryland, College Park. The new John and Frances Angelos Law Center offers 192,000 square feet of space and is among the most environmentally sustainable academic buildings in the nation. This 12-story facility, located on the northeast corner of the intersection of North Charles Street and West Mount Royal Avenue, houses all of the school's clinics, centers and classrooms and affords students countless options for indoor and outdoor study.[2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Baltimore_School_of_Law

I had forgotten that Louis Angelos helped Brady sign Tillman, Cashner and Cobb (from the Sun back in May, which seems like a decade ago: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles/blog/bs-sp-orioles-angelos-hierarchy-0523-story.html)

Keep in mind one thing. Once Manny wasn’t traded they had to do something to try to fix the pitching. It would have been worse to do nothing as crazy as that sounds.

As far as Tillman goes I have no idea what they saw.

If DD goes and Brady stays, I'm done paying close attention. That just screams more of the same BS. I'll still rep my gear, but I'm not going to follow this rebuild all that closely.

It'd be like we tasted competent leadership with AM and DD and then decide to, like a dog, "return to our vomit".

The scary part is, looking back, the signs have all been there with the level of influence Brady has been allowed to have. I thought it was mostly harmless.

But if they make him the guy.. This life-long fan is taking a lengthy sabbatical.

To this day, I have nothing against the Cashner and Cobb signings.    They were good moves at the time and most people here were in favor of them.   78% of posters gave last offseason an A or a B (even webbrick2010!).    Both had somewhat disappointing seasons but those deals made some sense at the time.

Isn't web a hive mind account?

I prefer option 5:  Fire DD, Buck, Brady, All the coaches, whomever is in the bird costume, the ball boys, the TV announcers, and the public address announcer.

Jim Palmer and Gary Thorne might be the best asset the team has!

I'm hopeful the Angelos family will sell the team. I'm hopeful that there is a group being formed right now that will approach the Angelos family and aggressively try to purchase the team.  Save us Cal Ripken and Kevin Plank!

I have long said that the Orioles would not win a World Series with Peter Angelos as owner. They almost made me happy to eat my words in 2014.

So, I don't think it matters what happens with DD and Buck and Brady if the Angeloses stay in power. I think it will be more of the same -- a poor chain of command, a commitment to putting only a decent product on the field, and continued legal fighting with MASN/MLB.

I'm pretty pessimistic ...

I think that you are correct.  The Angelos family has extablished that what they really care about is butts in the seats.  If getting that conflicts with any organizational direction they have committed to publicly they merely conflict and do what they desire.  The Tillman signing was a fan favorite move more than it was what he could have done for us this year.  He was paid too much for a reclamation project.  Same, with some nuances of difference with Chris Davis.  Then there were all of those guys from past teams that didn't really fit but were signed because we might be able to do something good with them - - - and oh, people will come to see the new star, so spend the money.

I continue to have little to no confidence in this ownership group.  I think that they have demonstrated the same MO since the team was purchased.  I firmly believe that the only reason we had this brief run is becaue of MacPhail, DD, and Buck and nothing more.  They were able to do enough with what they had or were able to get under the organizational objective of getting asses in the seats.   They fielded an overachieving team that we all really enjoyed watching for a few years.  But the ownership had little to do with that and likely hindered getting better.

The idea that Brady Anderson is going to be retained and placed in a role of greater importance is simply frighteningly horrifying to me.  It screams a Flanney/ Jim Duquette scenario.  I worry that too much value is given to players they liked/like.  I love my Historic Oriole players as much as the next guy, but if I wanted a beautiful lawn, I think I'd talk to the head groundskeeper, not the guy that played on the grass.  Those were bad years.

This Connolly guy thinks Dan had a lot to do with building this flawed roster? Nonsense. Dan Connolly clearly doesn’t have accurate intel. Why would Duquette want to return to a place that has allowed Brady Anderson and Peter Angelos to neutered his baseball brilliance? I’m not buying it. I suspect Dan is running the Red Sox or Yankees in 2019 as word leaks of all the amazing deals he had arranged before Peter ruined them. I wonder who gets more in the offseason, Duquette or Machado.

    • I really hope the Ravens win this one. I hate all Washington teams and always root for them to lose but especially if they are playing Baltimore teams
    • I really don’t see the point of trading Mullins, or even Mountcastle for a reliever. We need Mullins definitely, especially with Santander being a FA.  What good is a reliever if you can’t get a lead?  I just don’t like trading everyday players for relievers, especially when we have a good looking pen next year pre deadline, and what reliever would Mounty/Mullins even buy. Would that reliever even be an upgrade over what we already have? At this point, I’m thinking Mounty goes for some sort of RHH COF.
    • We couldn’t have asked for more from the Eflin deal than what we got. 9 starts that kept the rotation afloat to even make the playoffs. Then a “good” playoff start in an elimination game where we had the luxury of going to the pen fast.  It’s always tough giving up prospects, but Eflin did exactly what we needed him to do post deadline.
    • There should be one philosophy, and that's what the O's claimed to have. There's just a lot more work to coaching 13 hitters (plus callups) than one person can do. Going through video, coordinating with the data folks, developing a plan, all that stuff. Only so many hours in the day.
    • I have no idea why any team would want more than 1 philosophy across the board, especially a young team. Possibly a player's demands or contract calls for his own hitting coach.. but I stand by my wish.
    • At cost considerations there is 2 players i'd rather have listed in that article over Crochet, Helsley leading that. Also Mountcastle to the Reds for a SP makes a lot of sense also.
    • Guilty. I'm working to be intentional to enjoy the day to day of a lot of exciting careers beginning, and not miss the moment as during say Peyton Manning's career in a different chapter of life when assured 14-2 or 13-3 seasons were four months of boredom while you waited to see what the playoff stumble would be this time.    SIGBOT's stuff works in the regular season same as Billy Beane's didn't in the playoffs. I don't follow Over/Unders, but would guess the 2025 Orioles are 1st or 2nd in the AL on early action.    My informal AL power rankings end of 2024: 1. A nonexistent Orioles team with a functional Adley Rutschman 2. Yankees with Soto 3. Tie between actual Orioles with broken Adley and end stage Astros that lost several series to hot Central teams 4. Yankees without Soto 5. Central I'm cheating Cleveland there for a joke, and hope they win, which they are plenty capable of doing.    It is an interesting matchup for the stuff the two teams are good at being very different.
