Bud Norris?

Blue Jays to release Bud Norris.

“Norris has had a pair of solid seasons with the Angels and the Cardinals over the past two seasons. Over the life of 57 2/3 innings in St. Louis last year, the righty notched a 3.59 ERA with 10 K/9, 3.3 BB/9, 1.25 HR/9, and a 42.6 groundball rate.”

Os bullpen is gonna get a lot of work this season. Maybe this would be a good arm to have back in the mix?

I wouldn't be opposed.  But it seems obvious they are determined to keep Araujo to whatever the date is they can before sending him down.

If they sign Norris to a minor league deal and then bring him up, send Araujo down, I'd be in favor of that.

I feel like they'd rather have optionable/dirt cheap guys in the 'pen this year, but who knows. It would be nice to have another late inning arm. I just think with our starting pitching situation you need to keep the long reliever train chugging.

Maybe, but if he gets a few offers you might have to guarantee him a million or two. He was set to get $3MM if he made the Jays roster.

I've been a vocal supporter of a signing veteran arm all offseason - just so the O's have someone to eat innings when the starters aren't going deep into games and the bullpen is taxed. I think it's important the young guys have a normal workload and are given the best chance to succeed.

I don't know if Bud Norris is that guy, but I'd like to see a veteran long-man in the pen once Araujo is gone.

I dunno that we will be able to get Norris for that cheap.

Meh. I wouldn't be opposed (pending the move to clear the 40-man spot). Norris has been pretty good in the pen the last couple years. It's possible getting him innings would allow him to build enough value to flip at the deadline for a lottery ticket when others may be ready to take his place.

One player, and Matheny was on board with it, which got him fired.

Lol. Bud Norris is good enough to bully young players?  I needed that laugh this morning if true. Which I believe you.

He was also working for manager Matheny as a "snitch", writing reports to Matheny about bad behavior by younger members of the SL bullpen., which sometimes led to those players getting fined.

The Cardinals fired Matheny mid season and performed much better after he was gone.   

Bud Norris is not worth that kind of drama on the young Orioles who seem to get along great with their young manager.

He was Mike Matheny's strong arm and demise.
