Straily scouting report against A's tonight:

FB: 88-91 that was hit hard (98.8 EV avg). 2 Swinging strikes in 21 pitches
SL: 82-87 that didn't miss any bats in 23 pitches. (92.7 EV)
CH: 83-84 that got two swinging strikes on 17 pitches. (88.1EV)

87 was the ML average EV in 2018.

Start #2 against the Red Sox.

FB: 88-91 that was hit around MLB avg (87.5 EV avg). 1 Swinging strikes in 42 pitches
SL: 82-85 that didn't miss any bats in 10 pitches. (100.3 EV)
CH: 83-85 that got 7 swinging strikes on 32. (84.3EV)

It appears the Orioles adjusted Strailey and had him use his changeup much more than his slider, which at least through his first two starts with the Orioles is his worse pitch that misses the least amount of bats and gets hit the hardest.

Strailey reminds me of a younger Steve Trachsel. I don't hate it! If you can have success in the big leagues as a RHP with a 90 mph fastball, more power to you. Seems like he was closer to his normal self yesterday.

And if he ends up stinking, hey, he was less money than Nate Karns.

I like what Straily has to say, and I like the way he says it.

Is 88-91 where Straily has been throughout his career?  I thought he threw a little harder than that.

Yeah, he's been 89-90 for most of his career. Hard to believe this guy hung around a 4 ERA the past three years, looks like he's throwing batting practice out there.

Even if the baseballs are juiced up which it’s obvious they are instead of Straily insinuating so id  much rather him just accept personal responsibility and not even bring it up. He don’t need to be making excuses the other pitchers are throwing the same balls.

Straily ceded 0 Earned Runs over 4 Innings Pitched, but he threw a lot of pitches in the process, necessitating his early exit from the game.

Too bad he labored so much in the 3rd/4th innings.    Asking this bullpen to cover 5 innings is a recipe for disaster.

I think Straily is the least of the O's problems. Since he has been stretched out he as allowed 4 earned runs in 14 innings pitched over 3 games.  That is a 2.57 ERA.

I don’t disagree that he’s done reasonably well.   Just saying that even though he only allowed 1 run in 4 innings, asking our bullpen to protect a 1-run lead for 5 innings is like asking me to solve a differential equation written in Chinese.

Don't they have a Google App. for that.
