Can they find a slightly worse one for a quarter of the money?

Alex Avila?  He’s been around forever. Hyde was also a catcher so our catcher next year might not have to be AR’s mentor since Hyde theoretically could be.

I like the idea of signing to vet Catcher’s to milb deals and DFA’ing Severino and Wynns, and having those roster spots open all season till OD.

Roster spots are valuable because we will have the #1 waiver priority in the AL all offseason.

Look at these list of recent Free Agent Catchers. Most flopped.  Some flopped hard.

I’m thinking we could get something for Severino.  He does have a .777 OPS vs LHP.

I noticed that Chris Ellis was raving about Austin Wynns last night.   Said he “was putting down great fingers” and “was pumping me up and giving me lots of confidence.”

Just once after a pitcher has a bad day I’d like to hear him say that the catcher was putting down lousy fingers and really dragging him down and making him feel unconfident.

That should be a defensive metric for catchers.  Can you imagine the scouting line?  "Plus arm, frames pitches well, superior strike rate, but needs work on putting down fingers if he is going to stick at the Major League level."

Maybe there are finger exercises they can do in the offseason.
