Normally I'm not a proponent in playing the infield in in the 1st inning, but this offense has had so much trouble scoring, I think it was the right call.

Oh yeah, he would have scored.  But bringing the infield in increased the chance of a big inning, which is what we really don't want.  If Watkins can get Hernandez, it won't have mattered (besides the extra batter).

So bringing the infield in didn't cost us an extra run, but Watkins did have to face 2 extra batters.  And we need a bit of length from him tonight because our best long man is unavailable, two former starters who were in our pen (Kremer and AWells); are in the IL and another former starters (Baumann) just got sent down.  So while it's nice to have 8 available arms in the pen, they are disproportionately low inning guys and of course some have to remain available for tomorrow.
