Yep the days of bringing in a Brian Matusz to get out a tough lefty and then exit the game are over. You have to expect your LOOGY to face at least one left-handed bat.

He has Akin and a bunch of question marks because he didn’t want to use the other guys that been overworked.  You are going to have to get some outs from either Gillespie, Duplan, or Sulser.  He tried to use one of them at the bottom of the order which is much less dangerous.  You want Akin vs the top and middle of order.

It was Kiner-Felafa, Marwin, and Trevino. That's a stretch of hitters that would look bad in Detroit's lineup. I don't think Hyde felt he was taking that much of a gamble using Gillaspie and saving Akin for the top of the order. Logan was just that bad.

 After the fact I wish he had used Akin earlier but I get what he did. Pen is on fumes. Has to ask different guys to get outs.

Yeah. If this is late in year in a playoff race he handles it different. Playing the long game here. He has no choice but to use some of these arms.
