2023 Ongoing Lineup Thread

I'm taking a little vacation at the Outer Banks.  Was  looking forward to the game tonight.  Last time I was here during baseball season, they carried the game on cable.  This year, there are 2 channels called RSN1 and RSN2 with no broadcast.  I guess the hotel went for the cheaper package or the company they got cable from dropped MASN.  Should be an all time great game since I won't be able to see it.

I agree but IF Ohearn is going to be up here, I think I'd rather see him at first and Santander in the OF.  I guess it comes down to Vavra v Ohearn.  As it is, its two guys playing in secondary (at best) positions, while w/ Ohearn both he and Santander are playing their main spots.

Longer/medium term I do like getting Anthony reps at first though, so bigger picture, I don't have an issue here.

But if AS can be good enough over there, that means you can take at bats from Mounty too, which makes it easier to get the younger guys up here.

Or you bring up the 1B at Norfolk (Diaz) who was hitting as well as O'Hearn and Lester, and put him in the 1B rotation with Mounty. I like Santander well enough but he is unlikely to be here long as he slows down more and gets more expensive. He can be RF-DH for as many ABs as he is healthy and producing.

Reminds me of some good times on vacation in Ocean City.  Was always able to catch parts of an Orioles game in the middle of all the fun. I'll spare the thread here the juicy details about one game I most remember watching, beings this thread is about the lineups.

Oh well, I didn't miss much.  It was depressing enough following the game thread.  So much for our prized pitching prospect.

Spectrum dropped MASN in your area on March 2023.

That makes sense.  I'm sure there are very few people that want to watch O's games in the Outer Banks.  Probably could count them on your hands and feet.  I bet that took a nice chunk of change from the O's.  I assume they'll ride RSN fees until cable dies.

Pisses me off that the only reason I can’t just subscribe to MASN alone is because of cable tv. The day cable tv dies will be a good day for sports fans wanting to watch their favorite team without having to shell out $80+ every month.

Santander had a good game tonight but we have two guys in the middle of the order (Santander and Mountcastle) that are not good defensively with no speed with sub .800 OPS. Tough to have consistency when your RF/1B/DH are not above average hitters.

I remember when cable was 12$ per month with no commercials because, hey, that’s what your 12$ was for.    Down the Jersey shore in the 70’s on vacation where tv reception was terrible.  Used rabbit ears but in between NY and Philly signal watching the all-star game on a snowy screen only to find out that the people downstairs had something called cable and could watch out of town games crystal clear.

But that 43 inch plasma TV was 12 grand.

Hmm. We had a black and white with a tube in the living room.  7 working channels.  Get up and turn the channel dial.  Plasma was something you got in the hospital.

Mountcastle to the bench after DH yesterday. Curious. Banged up or in the dog house?

    • In terms of energy?   e = 1/2 mv^2 football: 60 mph -> 26.8 m/s, 14.5 oz = .411 kg.  1/2 * (26.8^2) * .411 = 147.5 joules. baseball: 102 mph -> 45.59 m/s, 5 oz = .142 kg.  1/2 * (45.59^2) * .142 = 147.5 joules.   I don't think they're 100% equivalent - I think the higher raw speed on the arm of a 102 mph pitch introduces more stress on the arm than a 60 mph football throw.  But they're not that far off.
    • There is no chance that over 60 mph for a QB is the equivalent of 102.  QBs do not train for velocity like pitchers do.
    • I would prefer they ask for Jon Gray in spite of the Orioles destroying him in his last start - he wouldn't have to face the Orioles lineup again.
    • He makes $43 million this year. The Mets are paying $21 million of that. I don’t think we pick up the remaining $10+ post deadline for 10-12 starts. It would just depend on what Texas would ask for to pick up the tab.
    • Haynie on 105.7, has been beating the Luis Robert drum for months on the O’s pre game show. So I think that’s why people like the idea of Robert. Robert also is always hurt.  We need a bat. Probably a RH bat to DH in the playoffs versus a LH SP. That bat is Mayo. It’s just hard to get Mayo up before September when we get the extra roster spot.
    • Holliday went 1 for 2 with 3 walks on Friday night. 2024: .444 OBP, .911 OPS MiLB Career: .447 OBP, .931 OPS His OBP is EXACTLY what this O's team needs, would fill a key offensive weakness at 2nd base, help grind opposing pitching, and magnify the power up and down the lineup.  It's all dependent on his ability to throw and play 2B at a passable level. If Holliday starts to hit at the ML level, the question of who bats leadoff is over for the foreseeable future and we can go back to complaining about 1 slumping hitter or backup catcher at the bottom of the lineup.
    • This. We literally have no lineup holes right now, and Mayo, Norby, Jax lurk. Any trade discussion should center around the four most essential and crucial elements to O's success for the balance of the regular season and playoffs: 1. pitching 2. pitching 3. pitching 4. damn, forgot the 4th one. oh yeah, its pitching.
