Well Cowser is gonna get a ton of reps now with Mullins out again.

Probably--but to play Devil's Advocate, it could also be a way to get Frazier in the lineup (playing a corner OF position while Hicks or Hays plays CF) vs. RHP without clogging the IF up. Devil's Advocate 2: Demote Cowser, call up McKenna.

Why would we be looking for ways to get Frazier into the lineup?

Cowser is a CF and left handed. There’s not really a need to bring back McKenna and certainly not in exchange for Cowser.

He’s not really a CFer. He’s someone you can play in CF but that doesn’t mean he’s a CFer.

That said, Hicks probably gives us enough where we don’t need to bring up McKenna.

But if they continue to go with 12 pitchers, McKenna probably gets the call.

So, obviously it's Sunday, so Adley gets the day off catching. Does he DH?

Probably DH. Mateo and Urias will probably both be in the lineup. I think the only question about todays lineup will be who starts on the bench between Gunnar and Westburg.

So, drafted as a CF, played 3/4 of his games in the minors as a CF.. but not a CF?

Isn’t this your argument that Holliday is the SS of the future? Because they drafted him as a SS?

Anyone who has seen Cowser play in both college and the minors will offer little argument that he isn’t a CF.

With the org drafting EBJ, Cowser will almost certainly end up in a corner spot.

Well that's why I sd "Devil's Advocate"--to entertain the possibility. But it wdn't astohish me. Both Hayes and Santander are switchhitters and Frazier also bats lefty. So that's not really an argument to keep Cowser up. McKenna is a proven entity and Cowser isn't.

He’s never been seen as a definitive CFer. Zero people doubt Holliday can stay at SS. Cowser was a guy who was a “we think he has a chance” to stick in CF.  They didn’t draft Cowser because he’s a CFer like they did with Holliday. You are comparing apples to Buicks there.

He’s not a true ML CFer. He is a guy you can play there but that doesn’t mean that’s his future.

We joked in his draft thread about EBJ being Terrance Gore this October, but if this isn't a cramp and Mullins is offline at the end of the year, he might present 5th/6th outfielder value when rosters expand and minor league seasons are over.     Defense never slumps, as they say.

No way a guy who was just drafted a week ago makes the major league roster in a month or 2. Not happening.

Not to knock you, but while McKenna plays a solid OF at all three spots, he has proven thus far that he's an awful hitter.  To be fair, he has not received regular playing time, but in his 458 Plate Appearance career in the majors, he has the following stats:
6 HR's, 35 RBI, 4 for 5 in SB's, 40 BB's, 155 K's, .218 BA/.297 OBP/.319 SLG/.617 OPS/ 74 OPS+

Even his eight year minors career showed only a .760 OPS.

Regarding Cowser's defensive abilities, I think Cowser is a capable CF, but may not be ideally suited there.  Hard to say for sure.  Here's an excerpt from MiLB.com:

Quote

Defensively, Cowser saw the bulk of his action in center field, a position he played exclusively in his final 69 games in college over his last two seasons. He also played six games in right field, which is where some scouts feel he’ll wind up in the future.

Some scouts doesn't mean all, naturally.  Being able to play CF just adds more value to his profile, regardless of where he winds up.

Here's another from MLB Pipeline:

Quote

He’s shown he can play solid center field with good instincts, but long term he might be better suited in a corner, where he could be a very good defender with an above-average arm.
