Great game, two great teams. Duke battled back hard and I thought they'd win it at the end. I was hoping Duke would win so Carolina could knock them off of the #1 spot in two weeks, but it is what it is.

Either Duke or UNC are liable to be #1 in 2 weeks anyway.

UCONN will lose to Louisville on Monday.

Agreed, and whoever wins on 2-11 could be #1 again, although Wake may not lose either.

The Heels didn't play well the first 10 minutes tonight and were behind 32-24 until they rolled the rest of the half. We're up 11 now at halftime. Gotta put together 40 minutes one of these days.

Wake has a tough little stretch coming up here...Some "annoying" games on the road that they could lose.

Duke's next test is next week at Clemson but they should beat them.

What a shot by Lawson to win that game.

FSU takes a timeout and the best shot they get off is that 3 pointer by Douglas? That was terrible.

See, when they need to play defense, they do. It's so frustrating. Green was huge tonight, especially in that last minute. Some night of Basketball, huh?

Yeah, Green might be the most underrated all-around player in the country. Those were 2 great games last night. I didn't realize Douglas was that good - great matchup between him and Lawson.

For Duke to go deep into the tourney, they are going to need to find another consistent 3rd scorer.

Scheyer has been shooting terribly as of late and he is the most likely guy but guys like Smith and Paulus also need to be able to step up and give them 12-15 points in a game when Scheyer is struggling.

Not many teams will play defense as good as Duke...Not many teams have a better 2 man game than Duke has with Singler and Henderson.

Duke is rebounding very good this year...They even outrebounded Wake last night and Wake is a bigger, longer team.

But what Duke isn't doing as well this year is shooting from beyond the 3 point line....They have missed a lot of wide open shots from out there this year..So, they can't rely on it as much as they have been able to in the past..If they make one more 3 last night, then they win the game but they of course, they didn't.

It will be interesting to see how things go for this team. They have a lot of aspects of their team that tell that this team can win it all...They also have some aspects that tell you if they get a tough second round matchup, that they will lose if they can't shoot well.

So, they need a 3rd scorer...And they need to improve their outside shooting.

In their 2 losses this year, they are 11-57 from 3...In each case, they played a team that likes to pack it in inside, making it harder to take the ball to the hoop and getting inside buckets....So, those teams said, shoot the ball....If Duke shoots well from the arc in those games, they win them both. But they didn't, so therefore they lost...That is going to be a problem come tourney time...Will they shoot good enough from 3 to keep teams honest?

Damn, i thought Duke was going to pull that game off...They did a terrible job of guarding that in bounds play...Henderson has to front Johnson there.

It sure looked like it, but I was pretty sure they were coming back when Wake got up by 13. Two very good teams that could win it all. ACC is loaded this year.

Green would be a star on almost any other team in the country. He'll probably be the best pro of any of the current Heels besides maybe Ed Davis.

Douglas is good, seems like he's been around forever though. Transferred from Auburn a few years ago.

    • Great sequence in the 10th where Mateo singled, driving in Westburg, stole 2nd and went to 3rd on the overthrow.  Then Mateo scored on a wild pitch.  I've joined the Mateo fan club, at least as a utility player.  Having Mateo on base has to drive pitchers crazy.
    • As someone that was all for DFA’ing McKenna for Hicks last week, I really can’t fault him for tonight.   I’m impressed he stole the base. He sort of had to run there with two outs. He stole it. He just came off the bag. That happens.  The route may have not been the best because he was going to his left and as a RH thrower he was just trying to position himself to throw home. He doesn’t have Vlad Sr’s arm out there. That’s a .01% chance play there.  Our CF depth is pretty thin. I think the only way we DFA McKenna is if Hicks comes here. Kjerstad will be the one to go for Hays. Remember last August when at full strength/healthy Mullins, and only a 26 man roster, we rolled with a 4 man bench of McCann, Hicks, Mateo, Urias/Frazier/Westburg.  Oddly, we’re deep enough into the season, and CF depth is thin, that I’d say there’s a 50/50 shot McKenna doesn’t clear waivers. I don’t know we have the luxury of CF depth to DFA him w/o Hicks in the mix.
    • I think they will DFA him. They already did it once. And the fact nobody claimed him means you’re probably right about not starting for other teams.
    • I had fun watching the extra innings of this game. That was good TV. Thanks Craig for serving up the evening’s entertainment!
    • Additionally, you can hover over the user name you want to ignore and a box pops up. The last button on the right at the bottom is the ignore button, click that and check all three boxes and you're done. Source: I'm a professional ignorer.
    • We have threads asking for Kremer, Grayson, and Povich in the closer role. Can we acknowledge that Cano is the pretty obvious next man up if Kimbrel is removed at some point? I don’t really care about his 9th inning splits. He’s our best reliever and until he gets a chance and fails I’m going to assume that’s just noise and he’ll do the best job. Tonight makes nine straight appearances with either a Save or Hold. Overall he has held a lead 10 times in 11 chances, and the one miss was a bad outing but still nearly a SV if not for Gunnar’s walk-off throwing error.
    • McKenna was finally beginning to grow on me after years of my derision. He's done a few good things offensively. But I think he wouldn't  start for another team in the American League. I would DFA him(they won't) and bring up Hays in LF, Cowser in CF for a while, and Santander in RF. I still think if they give Kjerstad enough at bats, and not just coming off the bench as a PH, he will hit and hit for power....I dont like him getting 4 at bats a week... I think he needs to play. Mullins needs to sit for a few games. He simply cant track the ball all of a sudden. Its almost hard to watch. Maybe he's hurting.
