Ted Williams retired in 1960.  Griffey's rookie year was 1989.

Felix Hernandez's last season was 2019.

Not quite the same thing.

Also I don't think the Seattle social media was as douchey about it.

Remember the husk of Felix Hernandez in spring training with the O's a couple years ago getting pummeled about the head and neck, throwing 84mph?

The ravages of age!!

Yep, seemed like every spring there was someone trying to make a comeback.  Jair Jurrjens, Johan Santana...

I think if Seattle had a new player coming up that somehow acquired the nickname "The Ironman" people here would be pretty miffed/offended.  And rightfully so.

Let our Felix have his own nickname.  Just my .02.

Perhaps if it was a legit nickname that was actually being bestowed upon said player. This is just the Orioles Twitter account (and I guess Kevin Brown at one point) trolling. No one actually refers to him as King Felix and no one is actually trying to make that nickname happen. Talk about making a mountain (no pun intended) out of a molehill.

Nick names dont belong to anyone.  I can not understand how they can be upset with using "king".  Someone should find that guys car and put sugar in his gas tank.   LOL

I know you are joking...   I had sugar put in my Jeep gas tank and it sucked

I wouldn't have done it, but I also wouldn't have harassed him during the All Star game celebration.

I'm more annoyed by the Basquiat rip-off crown being used here.

Why not? "The Kid" wasn't original to Ken Griffey Jr., it was Ted Williams's nickname long before.

You're both forgetting it was applied to Gary Carter, too.
