Really, you get all that when a #3/#4 starter happens to totally shit the bed and has the worst start of his career?

Tonight doesnt say anything to me about our team except that one of our mid- to back- rotation starting pitchers really really sucked in this particular game.

He got absolutely eaten alive by a 1-5 that is every bit as talented — probably moreso — than the Houston group that presently occupies the Mountain’s nightmares.

Look at our top 5 compared to theirs. Adley and Gunnar may some day occupy that sort of rarified air…but it also includes Santander, O’Hearn, and Mountcastle. Even if you consider Mullins to be one of the actual top 5 (perfectly reasonable), it’s a group that pales next to their top guys. Between 2 and 5 in their lineup, they have a combined 14 All-Star nods, 11 Silver Sluggers, multiple Gold Gloves, and 9 top-five MVP finishes. The oldest among them is 30. And that doesn’t even include Kim, who is tied for 2nd in MLB with 5.7 rWAR.

I don’t really get why people are acting as though I’m bagging on our team. I love our team. It’s a true TEAM, unlike whatever SDP has assembled. It has depth, and cohesion, and they believe in each other and play for each other.

But I think it’s a pretty obvious truth that when it comes to high-end MLB star-level talent, we’re not on the same level as these teams like ATL, LAD, HOU, and SDP. Doesn’t mean we can’t beat them — but when their best guys are locked in, their ceiling is higher than ours.

Someone stop Kevin Brown.  He's singing Blink 182.

Brown's pop cultural kidding of Ben has nothing to do with baseball and don't make him sound as tuned in as MacDonald about anything important. Becoming as annoying to me as Melanie's play-by-play announcing. I think it bespeaks Ben's classiness that he refrains from any effort to expose Brown's ignorance about things like...oh wrestling alligators and navigating the bayou.

On the nose. But next year we might have a scary(good) lineup...and things can get much better...

Absolutely. In a couple years, when we’ve added guys like Holliday, Kjerstad, Cowser, Mayo, Westburg etc., in their respective primes, added to the Adley/Gunnar core — we’ll be one of those teams that even other quality groups will look at some nights and say “yikes, we’re not on their level yet.”

I think you are going too much for big names. Why not compare the stats of these players THIS year?
