1. Washington Nationals STRAS

2. Seattle Mariners ACKLEY

3. San Diego Padres MATZEK

4. Pittsburgh Pirates TATE

5. Baltimore Orioles CROW

Pirates still trying to make amends for Moskos/Wieters.

O's going for the quick slot sign and looking to do some overslot sniping of HS arms later on.

After that I have no interest in what happens until 2:5. :noidea:

1. Washington Nationals... Stephen Strasburg

2. Seattle Mariners... Dustin Ackley

3. San Diego Padres... Grant Green

4. Pittsburgh Pirates... Tanner Scheppers

5. Baltimore Orioles... Tyler Matzek

6. San Francisco Giants... Aaron Crow

7. Atlanta Braves... Donovan Tate

8. Cincinnati Reds... Alex White

9. Detroit Tigers... Matt Purke

10. Washington Nationals... Mike Leake

After Strasburg and Ackley, it gets more difficult to define a strong top ten. Matzek is another I feel strongly about going top five. Seems there are 15-20 guys capable of going in the top ten.

Yeah, though mocks can be fun it's a little early to make educated guesses as to selections, aside from Strasburg, Ackley and Wheeler (who I think is a pretty safe bet for ATL at this point, based on the number of Braves scouts/brass in attendance for his last couple of starts. Of course, the college post-season could always change things.

Seattle seems interested in Ackley

Detroit has had their eye on Green

Braves have so many OFers I just cannot imagine them going with Tate even though they have a thing about athletic OFers

I believe I remember SD having an attraction to Tate, but is too risky that high up

I could see Scheppers and White flip-flopping based on the rest of the season.

I have a feeling that White will end up being one of the top 5 picks.

Like I said, I could have gone either way with White/Scheppers at 4, I went Schep. thinking that White will stay mediocre the rest of the year, if he has a couple good starts, I flip flop it.

Are the Pirates allowed to draft Scheppers again this year???

Yeah, like Lex said, he has to give his consent for them to do so, but he did a couple weeks back. That is why I had them taking him, if they are interested enough to ask for permission. I don't think it was a bad negotiation last year like Crow however, Schep. just wanted to see how he could improve his stock after he came back from the injury and get that extra money. PIT should have just paid him the first round money, but I guess going over on both Alvarez and Schep. was too much for them.

Well the Canadian Oriole fan is back to talk draft again. Actually living in NY now and working for mlb.com now as a stats guy.

I'm a big Matzek fan but there needs to be some sense of realism in that he'd be too expensive to sign for a prep player. His demands are rumoured to be unreal. The same goes for Aaron Crow, who honestly never impressed me in the first place. Tanner Scheppers again may be my favourite pitcher in the draft. I hear from buddies in Minnesota that he's been fantastic as a St. Paul Saint and his stats show that in the short American Association season. He may be a reach at 5, but I think it's well worth it.

Others to look for:

Mike Minor, LHP, Vanderbilt

Mike Leake, RHP, Arizona State

Alex White, RHP, North Carolina

Rex Brothers, LHP, Lipscomb

This is the first I've heard about Matzek asking for too much money. Crow doesn't have the leverage to ask for the moon after last year, he does it again and doesn't sign and he doesn't get drafted in the first round next year, not to mention would be drafted as a 23 year old with no real pro development, it'd really hurt his leverage. Scheppers could go as high as no. 2, the only question there is his shoulder and the injury which they still won't release medicals on, talent wise, he's 2nd pick worthy.

White could definitely go higher, he's just been so inconsistent this year that it's hard to call someone taking him in the top 5. I have the other 3 all in the 10-20 range, will have some write up on them soon.
