If I am so stupid put up or shut up. I bet you Miggi has more GAME WINNING RBIS than Markakis does this season. The loser puts "I bow to the wisdom of the winner in their signature line the entire off season. Either man up or quit calling me stupid because I sure as hell ain't scared to backup my position that Miggi is better in the clutch.
Hah even if that mattered, you're talking about a stat that players only accumulate very rarely, and you're limiting it to just this season, and this season is barely over 20 games in, and that doesn't account for how many opportunities each player has had so far to drive in a GWRBI. Has Nick even been up in that circumstance yet?

I think when he was up they intentionally walked him, not sure which team did it though.

On April 30 against the Red Sox, 4-4 score, bottom of the 10th, Jones on second, one out, Markakis at bat. They intentionally walked Markakis. Wieters strikes out. Tejada then singles to win the game, which is probably what's convinced O#5fan that Tejada is a god in clutch situations, while (to use his actual comparisons, from other people's quotes since I have him on ignore), Markakis isn't as good as Babe Ruth or Frank Robinson. As I and I think others have noted, it is because Markakis is batting ahead of him that Tejada will get more such opportunities than Markakis, who has Jones and Izturis ahead of him. As also pointed out, Markakis had just such an opportunity three days ago, but was walked intentionally, giving Tejada the opportunity for the GWRBI that I believe sparked this entire silly discussion.

Also, didn't someone point out that only two players *in history* had more walk-off GWRBI than the four that Markakis had in 2007? (Yes, these things are rare - but do I have that stat right?) Doesn't that make Markakis better than, well, Babe Ruth and Frank Robinson? :)

Well using the logic displayed on the board today by a certain poster, I think it does.:laughlol:

once again aren't you like 50? Why can't you just admit you are wrong? Why must you act so childish? We don't NEED to back anything up -ooooo you'll change your signature! WOW! BIG MAN!

Beat me to it. But I was going to say Babe Ruth. (didn't say he had to be alive)

Horrible answer...best he could do is walk...but then again i don't know how the strike zone works when the batter is horizontal.

Okay, how about the fact that he has a .444 BABIP against LHP so far this season, despite having a 15.8 LD%

When a guy is hitting .321, with a .444 BABIP, a huge K rate, low LD rate, and a history of not hitting lefties, what does it suggest? I'm curious.

It suggests nothing..the sample size is too small for it to suggest anything.

So Tejada goes from being one of Oldfan's favorite whipping boys in a past life to being his new hero on a pedestal, because of one instance so far this season? My brain hurts more from trying to rationalize that than learning statistics.

I know people think OF#5 is offering stupid arguments, but to someone sitting outside this thread, he isn't nearly as dumb as the people being succered into his game.

Ignoring the irony of your misspelled word, I completely agree. He isn't doing this because he thinks he's right - he's doing it because he knows it will get under peoples' skin. Trolls get off on this kind of thing.

But you certainly are stupid enough to think that one player having more GWRBI than the other would prove that they are better in the clutch, apparently.

I could be in a coma and know more about baseball than you!:laughlol:

Then make the bet instead of acting like a winner when I guarantee you I will end up winning the bet and you will be the LOSER for the entire OH to see! :laughlol:

The Gauntlet has been laid and you chickened out and ran the other WAY! Why if you are so RIGHT? Apparently I am the BIG MAN here because if you are just scared say you're SCARED!

    • Got my all-time low rarity score on today's game - 6.
    • 41 freaking years and here's this guy with the name pickles telling me I should be happy with 91 wins and getting owned in the playoffs again. 😂 😂 I saw a team that looked terrible the second half and probably didn't even deserve that spot the way they were playing .
    • Lol. Here's the funny they know more then you know. Typical Oriole fan who's happy with getting punched in the mouth.
    • I don’t like the wall. I think it’s affecting our hitters. I’ve mentioned before that I think it has totally warped Mountcastle into something he was never really meant to be. The guy came up as a pull-heavy HR hitter, and in his first season-plus (725 PAs), he puts up 38 HRs and a 116 wRC+. Since then, the wRC+ is down to 110, and his approach has totally changed, with his pull numbers plummeting (down from 39% in 2021 to less than 28% this year). He still hits the ball hard, but constantly underachieves his batted ball data — probably because he’s trying to avoid the pull field and hitting balls to the deepest parts of pretty much every other park. Will the same thing happen to Mayo? Maybe he has more pure power, but it’s always going to be a challenge for a RH slugger to survive with that wall. So much harder to do damage.   Beyond that, I think it’s also creating a serious risk of changing our LH hitters’ approaches too. These guys (Henderson, Holliday, Cowser, 2/3 of Adley) have come up with a reputation for being able to drive the ball to all fields. But how long does that continue when they just can’t hit it out to the opposite field? Our LH hitters had a combined 44 wRC+ at OPACY, and only one HR. They had the 3rd most balls hit to LF at home by LHHs, but the lowest wRC+ of any team on those balls (for the second straight year). The Royals, ironically enough, were the only team that was lower than a 70 wRC+ — that’s how much worse our lefties fared going oppo (at OPACY) than everyone else’s. By player: Gunnar Henderson: 112 wRC+ / .160 ISO (51 PAs) Adley Rutschman: 10 wRC+ / .026 ISO (38 PAs) Anthony Santander: 14 wRC+ / .095 ISO (43 PAs) Colton Cowser: 58 wRC+ / .057 ISO (36 PAs) Ryan O’Hearn: 47 wRC+ / .091 ISO (55 PAs) Cedric Mullins: 23 wRC+ / .100 ISO (41 PAs) Jackson Holliday: -72 wRC+ / .000 ISO (16 PAs)   On the road, they had a combined 126 wRC+ (with 9 HRs) going to left field, so it’s not like they’re bad at it. It’s just Death Valley out there in LF for them at OPACY.  How long will it be until these LH guys just start going full pull-happy? Essentially, the opposite of what’s happened with Mountcastle. When (a) your team’s philosophy is to focus on doing damage and (b) you can’t DO damage to the opposite field — the rational endpoint is just to try to pull everything. I don’t think that’s a good outcome. I think it makes them much worse hitters in the other 81 games, and I think it’s a terrible waste of a bunch of really talented hitters with all-field abilities.
    • Which core players beside Adley Rutschman struggled?
    • The entire commentary on Hyde and the team seems odd but have to admit there does seem to be something off.   Team seemed adrift for most of the 2nd half.  A very talented team went off the rails midway through the season mostly due to core players struggling and rookies not performing or filling in adequately for a few injured starters.    None of the position player trade line acquisitions performed that well.     Hyde seemed in over his head or at a loss on how to correct things, but he must have convinced Elias that he has a plan to fix things.  Curious to see what happens with the coaching staff.
