  1. 2B - I can see Vavra at 2B after the trade deadline. 3B - I think the AAAA players will get their audition for the rest of the season at 3B though. SS - I'm not sure what'll happen here. Part of me thinks that Mateo continues playing the majority of reps for continuity on defense. But now is the time to give the Martin's of the world some ML time. I highly doubt we'll see Gunnar or Westburg this year.
  2. Not if/when we're looking to be more competitive. He's been given leash this season mostly by default, and (.200 notwithstanding) he hasn't completely squandered it. But he also hasn't proven to be anything more than a solid bench/Util option. The .200 with little BB contribution to OBP and the lack of hard contact means he's not the future. But his speed and ability to play up the middle is what makes him a solid utility guy.
  3. Ultimately, it takes top talent depth to build the org. He's given hints at the top talent piece. But with him, it feels like we can't even count him as depth. I wonder if he could be a piece in a larger trade package. He's not the type of guy I would be trading for if I were building an org. But maybe a small/mid-market trade partner would see him as balancing out losing a higher rated prospect to get some bullpen help or a Santander?
  4. Jones isn't facing your average HS player either. Maybe not the consistently at the same level that IMG faces, but Jones isn't building his stats against sandlot teams either. Remember that viral "overrated" chant video where Druw Jones went yard? It was against a D1 college commit (Brady Jones). Brady Jones Class of 2022 - Player Profile | Perfect Game USA In context, GA has produced a ton of MLB talent. #4 behind the more populated states of FL, TX, and CA. Wesleyan faces top GA level competition. No clue where it ranks for current prospects, but quite a few top HS players are currently from GA (Jones, Johnson, Collier, and Lesko off the top of my head). 5. They have. To clarify, I wasn't sure if there could be late comers to the league. I did a quick scan of the rosters and only saw those two names. But noticed that Collier on had 9 ABs compared to the many with 20+. (Collier missed games for the combine, not starting later because of college/HS commitments. Maybe some are in that boat though.)
  6. Cape Cod Baseball League - scoreboard | Pointstreak Sports Technologies Cam Collier - potential 1.1 Carson Whisenhunt - potential 1.33/2.42 Not sure who else is playing in the league or when they'll start...
  7. Agreed. I'm a Jones believer, but Collier is really intriguing to me too. Looks like Cape league has started and Collier has started playing (got a late start). Cameron Collier - Cape Cod Baseball League - player | Pointstreak Sports Technologies
  8. True, but maintaining a .100+ OBP gap above AVG is a reasonable hope. Yes, it's otherworldly in 2022. And I'm not expecting he maintain a gap of .140-.180. His 2021 AVG/OBP gap was .090+. Witt's gap about .060 across all levels.
  9. Yeah, I'll take the OBP gap hands down. Looks like a #2 hitter if he can continue the .100+ OBP gap.
  10. Major League Draft WARs: An Analysis of Wins Above Replacement in Player Selection - IOS Press Maybe/maybe not. At least history doesn't support that thesis for players taken in the first 5 picks of the first round. HS bats and JC bats have the highest career WAR compared to 4YR batters. (fig. 4 on the link)
  11. The missing factor is that only having 1 double plus pitch can make a starter a failure. But it can also make that same guy a HOF reliever with the most saves ever (Rivera). That’s what the O’s have done (and all teams). They’re looking for something special for their bullpen arms. It doesn’t matter what (slider, cutter, curve…).
  12. Want: Jones Take: Jones I’m not as worried about his bat though. As SG mentioned, talking heads need something to talk about as they compare/contrast players. And I’ve said before I like Collier’s swing better than Johnson’s. I wouldn’t be disappointed with Collier either.
  13. That's why I think Termarr in OPACY made the news. And maybe a message to the others who also had a workout but not headlines. (Of course, my tin foil hat may need an adjustment as well...)
  14. I'm a lefty and my right hand is every bit as functional! Though I do manage to kick right-footed with my left foot being... well, a left foot.
  15. A little like moving the deck chairs around. .257 Babip is concerning combined with his terrible BB%. But he's done well limiting the HR (despite the high EV and bad LA allowed). Don't really see anything interesting to offer a silver lining that we could change. Maybe someone else sees something though...
  16. Jurrangelo Cijntje Class of 2022 - Player Profile | Perfect Game USA 19 y/o switch-pitcher who throws 90 MPH with both arms (ok a tick under lefty). He was a topic of chatter for obvious reasons at the combine. Switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje impresses at Draft Combine (mlb.com)

    Coby Mayo 2022

Pitches per PA is to 4.008 from 3.264 last year. Good show of patience for a young guy against older pitching.
  18. I like it too. Plus it’s helping shave almost 30 minutes of fluff time off a game (for what that’s worth to some).
  19. It's more subtle, sure. But it's the weight shift and being in a strong hitting position at the point of contact. Mel Ott was a HOFer with his swing, I suppose anything is possible...

  21. There were definitely comments about elevating more.
  22. Here's the tiers/order as I have them: "Creme de la creme" 1.1 picks - Jones It seems like the vast majority have him as #1 on the prospect board (not the mocks). Maybe not consensus, but pretty close. I do think they'll have to pay slot here, but that's not a showstopper IMO. Anyone else will be glad to get 1.1 and sign a team-friendly deal. "Defensible" 1.1 picks - Green, Collier, Holliday There's a different case for each of these ranging from highest upside/most power, most likely to hit/stick at SS... Holliday is the one I know the least about, so I probably should bump him below Lee. But I'd rather they pick from here up. "I won't argue against it" 1.1 pick - Johnson Yes, there's a case for drafting him, but from an org building perspective, I'm just not a fan of a 2B at 1.1. That said, there's something to be said for penciling-in Joe Morgan into the daily line-up at 2B. We have plenty of 2B depth now (FWIW, I like Collier's swing better than Termarr's.) "He better be as advertised (and stick at SS)" 1.1 pick - Lee Unless the FO chatter about HS players is smoke/mirrors, I doubt they go with a college guy. Lee could honestly be a great player, but he seems a little boring to me. I tend to lean toward those with some tantalizing skillset. Huge power, big time speed, Power/speed combo, best bat, best all-around, etc. That describes the guys in tiers above. But Lee seems above-average across the board with less floor risk because he's a college guy. I'm hoping for something beyond 'above-average' with this pick. Obviously, I'll be rooting for him if he's the pick, but he better be as advertised. Personally, not interested in anyone else: no SP, no 1B/DH (Berry), no C/DH (Parada)... MLB Mock Draft 2022: Jackson Holliday, Druw Jones go 1-2; no pitcher taken until No. 13; Mets primed to spend - CBSSports.com CBS chiming in with their mock draft with the O's taken Holliday at 1.1. Interesting quote from Ciolek: "We're excited that we get the chance to obviously add another impact player to the system, and picking (No. 1 overall) is great because you will ultimately get to decide who you think is the best player in the country," Orioles director of draft operations Brad Ciolek told the Baltimore Sun in January. "Bottom line is we want to be able to make an impact not only with the first pick, but as of today, we're slated to pick three players in the top (42) overall selections. We're going to make sure that we do whatever we can to find as many impact players not only for those top three selections, but throughout our entire class."
