I hear ya and I understand, I guess I'm just saying what I've been feeling all along this year. I've enjoyed the season, but the more I looked at our weaknesses (poor starting rotation, poor defense, below average offense) the more I kept waiting for them to start to lose more than they win. Now no one expected them to be this pitiful, and they aren't this bad, but I'll be happy if we somehow can not implode. I just want this team to end up over .500 this year. That's my goal for the season and anything more than that is cake.

.500 is all well and good, but I really have to wonder what the O's are going to do if they go off the rails for a stretch and fall out of contention. IMO, they really painted themselves into a corner with the Jones deal. While I like the idea of having AJ here long term, what on Earth can the FO say if, at the end of the year, it's clear that the reset button needs to be hit yet again? Or are they all of a sudden going to open up their wallets to buy established talent? As much as I like how the Hammel trade/Chen signing have turned out, things like that just...don't happen very often (in re: how well the bargain-basementing has turned out). And, taking for granted that, through the course of this season, Wieters firmly establishes that...he simply is what he is (i.e., great glove, middle-of-the-road bat), along with Markakis, Reynolds, etc...well, it doesn't seem as though the winter story will be that much different than the story that's played out every winter for the last 14 years. Gaping holes in the middle-of-the-order, along with OBP problems, and a dire need to fill (perhaps) up to three rotation spots.

Frankly, I'm not nearly as worried about the bats (we've faced great pitching, I don't even know if you can call it a slump) as I am about how poor the gloves are, which implies lack of concentration: aside from the normal zombie show by Betemit, you've got Flaherty, Hardy, Roberts, Jones, and Nick Johnson all looking stiff or confused out there. The only defensive plus being Wieters' throw beating the SB-attempt by a lot.

This team is embarrassing. 1 hit, and by the pitcher no less. This offense needs to take a good hard look at themselves in the mirror after laying and egg this series.

We are on the same page and I want to adjust my expectations accordingly, because I would have killed for that before the year.

As far as the offense goes, I still feel like they can be at least average and they have been thus far.

Now, that's assuming these scenarios

-B rob provides a boost (750ish OPS)

-Davis hits to an 800ish OPS

-Reynolds 800ish OPS

-Hardy duplicates near last years numbers

-Jones hits 35 HRs

-At this point, Wieters duplicating last year would look OK (disappointing after his hot start)

-Kakes comes back and hits .800 OPS

-Betemit gets near his career .780 OPS

I guess those have been my implicit hopes for the offense, and I don't think they are really unreasonable and that would make for an above average offense. (B rob looks like the biggest long shot right now)

No, getting shut-out three games in a row is a definite slump by any measure, regardless of how good the pitching is... But you are right about the gloves. Errors seem A-OK on this team.

Really? Seems a bit premature to write them off based on a tough series on the road. Just my opinion. I do think they need to make some moves soon if they want to keep pace with the stankees .... Matusz Arrieta and Hunter in the rotation is not gonna get it done. They need a solid #3 at the very least

Wow, that is just SO bad. And out of nowhere too. I thought the first game against ATL we were a little aggressive and overconfident with the bats but I didn't think it would parlay into this.

I'm glad I've been too busy to watch most of this game. A series like this is very discouraging, when every win on the season still only feels like one, and every loss still feels like two.
