Do we want Oakland to win tonight?

I want oakland to win. I want tampa and LA to be eliminated already. I want to face a demoralized Rays team for these next two games.

Lets be real, its going to be extremely tough to get even one win in tampa against a hopeful rays team. But against a rays team with no hope or shot, we can take the next two and regain our home game. Oaklan isnt going to sweep the rangers, so if we can win the next two games we will have a home game.

I just think the risk is too high to leave tampa around. Because if it comes down to a one game playoff against david price, i dont give our lineup much of a chance. So i hope oakland wins tonight, knocksout the rays, and we take care of business

I know it's not pleasing to the baseball gods to say so, but I do want the A's to win tonight. I'm confident that Texas will win at least one game against Oakland, but I want the Angels knocked out and I want the Rays knocked out and demoralized.

Most of all, I want Chris Tillman on the bump for the Wild Card Game on Friday night. I'd much rather have Tillman starting in Oakland than having Joe Saunders starting in Baltimore. Win that game on Friday, and start Hammel for game one of the ALDS.

I think you're overestimating the psychological impact here. I don't think the Rays can just will themselves to victory because they're still in the race, and by the same token, I don't think they're going to suddenly stop trying to win games if they get eliminated tonight. They're still going to have Shields and Hellickson on the mound. Maybe Maddon will rest some of his regulars if his team is eliminated, but I wouldn't count on it. To me, it's much more important to stay ahead of the Athletics. We need that home playoff game.

If the Orioles win the next two games, they get a home playoff game regardless.

Take care of business, and everything takes care of itself.

This is not true if Oakland wins out or finishes with the same record as us.. They have the tiebreaker for homefield.

I want a home playoff game, damn it. I don't care how it happens, or who we have to step over or steal from to get it. I paid my money to get tickets, and I want to be sitting at Camden Yards with 46,000+ nut jobs and watching playoff baseball. Period.

Same here, man.

Come on, Texas!! 4-2 A's, now. Ugh.

If that happens Texas would come here then. We have 94 wins Rangers 93

Touche. Even so, I think a Texas sweep is unlikely. Most likely, one of these teams takes two out of three, and I hope it's the Rangers in that case.

    • You should totally sue them. What gall they have to kinda, sorta imply that their baseball replays are accurate to the tenths of a second when they might not actually be that. That's exactly what leads to distrust of all institutions, chaos, revolution, and then we're living in some kind of post-apocalyptic hellscape, boiling our own shoes for the meager nutrition in the leather.
    • I think I used elite a little too loosely. Still, not a ton of hitters do better than 1:2 over a full season.
    • Baumeister threw 4.2 scoreless innings last night, 2 hits, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts.  He pounded the strike zone, throwing 49 strikes in 71 pitches.   In 14 innings spanning 4 outings, he’s got a 1.93 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 11.6 K/9, 1.8 K/BB.  The walks have been high, 10 in 14 innings, but not crazy high for a guy just getting his feet wet.  Decent start for Baumeister.
    • I always thought that if you weren't around 10:1 you weren't trying hard enough.
    • Adley was a nearly finished product when picked, if not for tradition and service time stuff he could have been in the majors shortly after he left college. Gunnar needed 1000+ minor league plate appearances as a high school pick. Ask this same question about the 1990-2017 Orioles with their development system. They certainly could have found a way to screw up Gunnar, would have been harder with Adley.
    • I don’t think it was weird at all.  EDC said it but I thought it unfolded as expected.  You knew the QBs would go. You knew tons of OT and WR would go.   This was always going to be an offense dominated first round. The Oline and WR depth is in every round. I suspect that they go Oline twice or Oline/WR tonight.  Obviously you never know how the board falls but I think that’s what is likely.   This is mainly going to be an offense draft. EDC said a few weeks ago that they will draft a RB.  My guess is that the RB goes sometime in day 3. They will come out of this draft with at least 2 more Olineman, one WR and one RB.  I suspect they take a safety at some point as well. The question will be do they take 9 players.  The Ravens didn’t feel this was a draft with as many draftable players as years past, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they make some kind of a trade.
    • 1:2 is good.  Elite is a player like Arraez who is 1+:1.
