MLB Network

Is there any talk of one? There must be.

If there was a network that covered the Fall and Winter leagues, the Minors, Spring Training and obviously the bigs, and had extensive draft reports and updates/profiles on all the likely picks, it would INSTANTLY be my favorite channel!!!:D

Yes, there is a MLB network in the offing, and it was a big part of the deal by which cable and Dish Network got MLB-EI, rather than it being a DirecTV exclusive. Part of the deal is DirecTV and some of the big cable companies get some equity in that network, it gets to be 1st-tier (like the NFL network wants to be), and that MLB-EI was a big bargaining chip in getting the cable/sat people to sign on for it. Right now, what some big cable companies want from the NFL is to get access to the NFL Sunday Ticket thing that is a DirecTV-exclusive (thru 2010, I think), plus some equity in the NFL Network, in return for putting the NFL network in the 1st tier. In short, the MLB network is the model that the NFL is trying to not agree to. Personally, I think the NFL is screwed (and properly so) and will have to cave in, but we'll see.

It's coming for sure. What's not so clear is what it will actually be. Your wishlist is a good one, but doing those things would require some Actual Work. Plus, most of those are things that most baseball fans prolly don't even know exist, much less care about. My guess is that what we'll actually get is an endless supply of baseball game reruns. It's cheap, easy, and requires no work. Hope I'm wrong, but that's what I expect.

Well, the NFL equivalent to the minors and fall leagues are the draft and the combine and college football. NFLN has done a pretty good job there....they have a daily show that focuses on college football, they air a couple of bowls, they cover the college all star bowls heavily and in fact air the Senior Bowl, they have blanket coverage of the NFL combine, and they have saturation draft preview coverage in the weeks leading up to the draft.

    • Not for someone who has money riding on him winning the award.
    • Well, now that we’ve established the hitting sucks, is it a good time to complain that this pitching is obviously over performing and will crash and burn any day now?
    • The bullpen has much more depth this year than last year but it just feels like you don’t know who will be the guy each night.  Last year it was get to the 8th and you knew it was Cano and Bautista and lights out.  This year it doesn’t seem to be set roles especially with Kimberly strugggles and out as clasper for now possibly.  I also think Hyde gets a lot of grief about how he handles the bullpen but I think he has been great at looking at the game situation and with who he wants facing what guys.  Cano might come in the 6th one night then close the next, same with Webb or even Coulumbe.  I know a lot of it is analytics but as a group they make a plan and seem to stick with it instead of some managers that have 7 inning guy an 8th inning guy and closer and don’t deviate much.
    • On the replay you can see that Julio was lightly jogging after the ball-- either assuming the RF would get it, or assuming Hays wouldn't run. Good on Hays for taking advantage and turning it into a double.
    • I think in general people are more negative in life not just in sports and they need to blame someone or something.  In previous years we had a scapegoat in Peter and John.  Elias didn’t go out and make a trade it was because he didn’t have the money to go get anyone or the owner didn’t want to spend.  Now for the most part people seem to think new ownership will give the ok to spend more so now if we don’t do it it is on Elias, Sig, and Hyde for not getting best out of the players.  We dint make a big trade last year and most people just went with well John is cheap we don’t do what they want now it will fall on Elias more then last year in peoples eyes imo.
    • Mike Baumann.  An enigma wrapped in a conundrum.  Ride the wave!
    • The Yankees have been extremely healthy on offense as well.  If that somehow happens all year they will be right there with us but if I was a betting man I don’t think Judge, Stanton, Rizzo can stay healthy all year and they have very little depth behind those guys.  Besides Adley we have guys at every other position that can fill in if someone goes down.  There might be a drop some but I don’t think it would be catastrophic like losing Judge or Soto.
