Fan that threw banana comes forward

When you google the guy's name the first two pictures that come up are mug shots (that I assume are him, given the location, age and unusual name). http://mugshots.com/US-Counties/California/Mendocino-County-CA/Alexander-Nicholas-Poulides.57025801/details/

Not the same guy, who is 36 according to mugshots. The guy in the Mercury news article is 42.

Poulides, 42, said he grabbed a banana off a catering cart and hurled it toward the field in disgust at the Giants near the end of a 10-2 loss at AT&T Park on Sunday. The banana apparently sailed toward Jones, who tweeted about the incident after the game.

Maybe if you left out the inflammatory stuff at the end, people would address your actual point. I mean, maybe they still wouldn't, but your post isn't blameless in derailing the conversation.

Perhaps you're correct. And for that I apologize.

I do get a little miffed when clearly racist stuff occurs and folks try to act as if it was anything but.

What kind of ballpark has catering carts with fresh bananas? Only in San Francisco.

I'm picturing the catering folks taking food out of a luxury box near the end of the game. Maybe the banana was easier to throw than, say, a handful of lasagna.

Or maybe he's a raging racist. It's really hard to know the guy's motivations. I tend to believe the thrower though, if only because he came forward. The throwing bananas thing isn't really done here in the US.

So there is NO chance that a guy threw something on the field out of anger? The ONLY possible scenario here is that a racist wanted to mock Adam Jones?

I am with you. I don't see how there is any debate... pushing a banana at a black person and referring to their ancestry as savages is terrible. Racism is racism, it doesn't matter if he is offended or not. A rookie isn't going to really rock the boat anyway.

Re: this Adam Jones thing though, I would say was an accident.

My girlfriend is black and I am white. I asked her about this and she sent me this:

http://offthebench.nbcsports.com/2011/04/23/orioles-luke-scott-throws-banana-chips-at-dominican-teammate-to-remind-him-to-not-be-a-savage/

I absolutely despise Luke Scott.

Wow, never saw that story before. That's freaking nuts. I always knew Scott had his political views but shrugged my shoulders at them... if I'd seen this story I would have hated him quite a bit.

I am pretty sure the only people that think a white player throwing banana chips at a black player in any context is a white person. Pie might have said he was okay with it but think about that logically for a minute. Scott even made a reference to him acting like an animal, wow. That is horribly appalling on many levels.

I do not have anger or biterness issues:) But I will admit I have a huge pet peeve about athletes and politics. Kids look up to you, keep out of it.

I like what Led Zeppelin does-they stay out of it. Why upset half of your fan base by bringing up politics opinions in the first place.

You should lick on that link btw. Quite unbelievable.

Dang straight! Click on that link and tell me your opinion.

I think you don't agree with his politics so you like to cry about it.

I think when someone earns the spotlight, they can use it however they may.

I think you are a hypocrite if you like ANY actors or actresses in Hollywood who do NOTHING but try to spread propaganda.

I think if what Luke Scott did was reprehensible, Adam Jones or someone else would have put an end to it.

I think you need to relax.

Thankfully, Felix Pie, Luke Scott's friend, did not seem as bitter and testy over the incident as you. Friends joke with each other all the time. I'm sure you think Scott is a racist because of his "political views." Felix Pie would probably have a different view of Scott.

I appreciate your board but couldn't disagree more.

Just because the black guy said it is okay the white guy is throwing banana chips at him and making references to him acting like an animal does not make this okay. Period. It is horrendous. They are in a workplace. That is degrading. I am sorry but I strongly disagree with your assessment.

    • Great sequence in the 10th where Mateo singled, driving in Westburg, stole 2nd and went to 3rd on the overthrow.  Then Mateo scored on a wild pitch.  I've joined the Mateo fan club, at least as a utility player.  Having Mateo on base has to drive pitchers crazy.
    • As someone that was all for DFA’ing McKenna for Hicks last week, I really can’t fault him for tonight.   I’m impressed he stole the base. He sort of had to run there with two outs. He stole it. He just came off the bag. That happens.  The route may have not been the best because he was going to his left and as a RH thrower he was just trying to position himself to throw home. He doesn’t have Vlad Sr’s arm out there. That’s a .01% chance play there.  Our CF depth is pretty thin. I think the only way we DFA McKenna is if Hicks comes here. Kjerstad will be the one to go for Hays. Remember last August when at full strength/healthy Mullins, and only a 26 man roster, we rolled with a 4 man bench of McCann, Hicks, Mateo, Urias/Frazier/Westburg.  Oddly, we’re deep enough into the season, and CF depth is thin, that I’d say there’s a 50/50 shot McKenna doesn’t clear waivers. I don’t know we have the luxury of CF depth to DFA him w/o Hicks in the mix.
    • I think they will DFA him. They already did it once. And the fact nobody claimed him means you’re probably right about not starting for other teams.
    • I had fun watching the extra innings of this game. That was good TV. Thanks Craig for serving up the evening’s entertainment!
    • Additionally, you can hover over the user name you want to ignore and a box pops up. The last button on the right at the bottom is the ignore button, click that and check all three boxes and you're done. Source: I'm a professional ignorer.
    • We have threads asking for Kremer, Grayson, and Povich in the closer role. Can we acknowledge that Cano is the pretty obvious next man up if Kimbrel is removed at some point? I don’t really care about his 9th inning splits. He’s our best reliever and until he gets a chance and fails I’m going to assume that’s just noise and he’ll do the best job. Tonight makes nine straight appearances with either a Save or Hold. Overall he has held a lead 10 times in 11 chances, and the one miss was a bad outing but still nearly a SV if not for Gunnar’s walk-off throwing error.
    • McKenna was finally beginning to grow on me after years of my derision. He's done a few good things offensively. But I think he wouldn't  start for another team in the American League. I would DFA him(they won't) and bring up Hays in LF, Cowser in CF for a while, and Santander in RF. I still think if they give Kjerstad enough at bats, and not just coming off the bench as a PH, he will hit and hit for power....I dont like him getting 4 at bats a week... I think he needs to play. Mullins needs to sit for a few games. He simply cant track the ball all of a sudden. Its almost hard to watch. Maybe he's hurting.
