And Cabrera would still be high on my list. Some injury concerns with him, so I’m not sure how far I would extend for him but I would look into it for sure.
Norby and Stowers make some sense as part of the deal although they may be older than Miami would like.
You mean the guy whose K rate has dropped 3.5 Ks per nine and whose walk rate is higher than his K rate?
No thanks.
A more below the radar move would be adding someone like Anthony Bender. Wouldn’t have to give up too much for him. Try to get them to take back Urias (to replace Arraez at second) as part of the deal..even paying some of his salary if needed. Add in a guy like Max Wagner and maybe a lottery ticket Intl player or someone who was a recent draft pick. Something along those lines.
3 months ago I would have said yes, no brainer. I still think Scott is a worthwhile target. Miami produces pitching. I’d rather try to get him with someone like Norby or combination of mid to lower tier guys like the Flaherty deal.
Lots of Scott detractors but he was elite last year. The walk totals are a concern but if he comes around he’s a difference maker.
With Guerrero unable to get himself right and whatever the hell is going on with Manoah it was easy to see a path where they'd implode.
I did kind of expect the Rays to put up more of a fight. They still looked like a team up until the bitter end last year. But between their all star shortstop being stuck in the minors, and their pitchers' UCLs all exploding I guess it's a lot to lose.
