Orioles Trade Targets?

More than a catcher, this team needs a real 2B. Schoop is just so bad it's hard to watch. He's the worst hitter in the AL (out of hitters with 300+ PA's). He is so, so bad. Can't have two black holes in the lineup when this team can barely score as is. Should be easier to fill the 2B hole than catcher spot. Joseph is also much better defensively than Schoop, so there's really no reason to upgrade at catcher instead of 2B.

This is just stupid. Schoop had an amazing game with the glove tonight. And who else hit Weaver? If anything this game points up why we need another back of the pen arm. Hunter shouldn't have had to pitch two innings tonight.

Yes, Schoop made a bunch of plays on balls right to him that any 2B makes. How about that misplayed ball that led to the tying and winning runs in the 8th though? That was really something. His .590 OPS and anemic walk and LD rate are also something else. He is a terrible MLB player, at least at this point in his career and will continue to be unless he figures out how to hit. He wasn't very good in the minors last season. Trade for an actual MLB caliber 2B and let Schoop earn his way back to the big leagues by being at least an average hitter in AAA before he is given the starting 2B job on a first place team.

We need a starter , LHP for pen but this could be filled by Chen if we add a starter. Need a bat we cant send 4 or 5 guys out every night hitting .235 and under.

To be fair that ball was in RF field. If we had a real RF he catches that ball. Our RF is slower than molasses.

Schoop was out there in the shift though. I don't think most RF'ers catch that ball. It was hit softly. Most 2B that are all glove no bat should make that play though...

How many runs did Schoop save Tillman tonight? At Least 2

Another option is to trade for a Catcher and let Flaherty start at 2B. Instantly upgrades 2 positions. Schoop is just so bad and is actually getting better, not worse (OPS of .500 the last 31 days). Flaherty on the other hand hasn't been half bad since his slow start.

How? I didn't catch the one play where the ball defected off Davis but other than that there wasn't a play that any 2B that's played for the O's this season doesn't make.

This is just flat out wrong.

Actually Flaherty and Schoop have been nearly identical value wise.

Schoop

PA:303

wOBA:.256

fWAR:0.3

Flaherty

PA:170

wOBA:.274

fWAR:0.1

If you even up the plate appearances you get roughly 0.2fWAR for Flaherty. With Flaherty you get slightly more offense and with Schoop you get slightly more defense. Either way, neither should be starters on a contending baseball team.

1B: We're stuck with Davis for better or worse

2B: Schoop's Defense is just too much

C: Joseph is killing it on Defense. What could we get anyway?

We are what we are. A team with a bunch of starters with around a 4.00 ERA that has a top notch defense. What this team needs is another lockdown bullpen arm.

Didn't someone just post that we were 15th in WAR at 2nd base. I think we're ok there. The problem is Cruz has cooled off and Davis is lost. You know you're two big offensive positions First and DH are pretty cold right now.

Buck is doing Davis no favors at all by trotting him out day after day.

If he was going to bust out of his "slump", he'd have done it by now.

Pearce is also cooling off, yet somehow, we've still gone 3-3 on the road against two of the best teams in baseball.

Not too shabby. If we patch up a few holes (specifically Matusz and trying hard to get Suzuki), we could be a definite contender.

I think our starting pitching is just fine.
