Well that's good enough for me I read that as Ubaldo on borrowed time.

I don't think Buck liked sending down Gonzo.

Well done Buck. The Orioles come first, Jimenez is a distant second.

Good answer. The team knows Ubaldo is the 6th best start on the team. He's had his chances to turn things around.

Got two starts since coming off the DL, that's not a chance. He didn't pitch badly last start and at the end of June he pitched a beauty against Texas. Is he inconsistent? Absolutely, but we all knew that. But he's pitched 3 games since June 30 before tonight.

His numbers before tonight was a 2-1 with a 3.66 ERA in those 3 starts with 11BB, 16Ks.

You could go back to May 29th and find since then he's actually been consistent with 3 bad games. In all those games he gave the O's 7 chances to win. O's lost 3 of those games despite Ubaldo giving up less then 3 runs.

So little perspective here.

Eh, him calling Jimenez the team's 6th best starter IS the proper perspective.

Well done Buck. The Orioles come first, Jimenez is a distant second.

If the Orioles came first, he'd bat Davis 8th or 9th and not play him that often. If the Orioles came first, we'd have DeJesus Jr. up here and Matusz would never pitch in a close game against a righty ever again.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. Davis has been just as bad, if not worse than Ubaldo, yet he's given every opportunity and then some. Starting him 2nd is criminal. Then batting him 5th? The fact that he's in the lineup every day and so high in the lineup speaks a lot about Buck's handling of the veterans on this club.

And I am not saying he's not 6th best right now but to say he's a disaster this whole season would be wrong and that he's been given a chance since coming of the DL is wrong as well.

This is a forum where people called for the scalp of Tillman when he had a few bad games in a row and saying Chen is useless after the 6th already this year. It happens, it's baseball. Ubaldo's issue is control, not his lack of ability to pitch and despite all his walks since May.. his ERA (before tonight) has been 3.80 despite giving up 46 walks.

Buck is just trying to motivate him and serve notice that if he does not get it together his season as a starter is winding down.

Much to the chagrin of a lot of posters I have no doubt he will get at minimum at least one more if not two more starts.

It is a little odd to see Buck massive not their out 100% confidence in him. Usually he seems to such with his guys to a fault. Just seems a little uncharacteristic to me.

I remember him coming down on Arrieta, Britton and Matusz amongst others in the past when they haven't performed. He doesn't do it overtly because Buck is careful not to throw guys under the bus, but he does say after a poor performance guys need to play better. You usually know after a particular game who he's referring to in that moment.

    • I thought Chisholm missed home too. They didn’t appeal tho I don’t think.
    • Now run scores and Yanks take lead.
    • Inexcusable missed call in NY. Review Cleo at showed Chisholm out at 2nd. They upheld safe call.
    • Well, good on posters who proved the SSS side of "Guards Ball." I just found it striking in terms of the narrative in that article, which was basically the same as what most around here were complaining the O's lacked: clutch hitting, passing the baton, aggressive running, getting runners in from third, etc. I guess the real bottom line is "whatever works." Which of course varies from case to case. The old Bill James postseason wisdom was that HRs are the ticket, since you face good pitching and get so few hits. So back to you, Elias, keep crunching those numbers...
    • First, the had a jump in 23’ given how terrible they had been previously, which conditions many fans in the marketplace not to care. They simple weren’t relevant for years. So one very good regular season will not undue years of being bad/irrelevant and treating your customers terribly. Next, I think they missed an opportunity in the offseason by not doing enough by way of big/bold attention grabbing moves. Now I acknowledge that this was most likely due to the ownership flux/transition. I believe they got an attendance/marketplace engagement boost when they changed owners and when they traded for Burnes. However, I believe we would have seen more engagement attendance with say a big Gunnar extension and/or bringing in a big time FA.   IMO this would have created more buzz before the season (say around the time people make season tix decisions - IMO before Christmas is when some people make those bigger purchases). All of this is to say, that it will take time and effort on the organizations part because of how bad of a stain that the Angeloses left. I still have friends and colleagues who refuse to support the Orioles and attend games due to the damage that was done. Rubenstien & co are not going to be able to undo 30 years of awfulness overnight. But IMO it is not enough to simply call it “a new chapter”. They have to make new/different actions to distinguish themselves from who the Orioles were/used to be under the Angelos regime.
    • Just checking in on Gameday, Yankees looking incredibly vulnerable.  Should be the Os out there.  Super lame.  Whichever team wins this series I hope gets knocked out by CLE or DET.
    • If the franchise were better, the fan base would be too.  It’s been a rough 40 years.
