The number of games the respective pitchers had appeared in.

I've been underwhelmed so far in this draft so I'm not expecting much excitement over the Orioles pick here. I'm just hoping they stay away from high school pitcher.

A lot of these HS kids played for the same UA school.

Ed Encina said it was based on a formula for how often they pitched. In other words, Will Smith pitches more frequently than Brian Matusz, so (theoretically) he'd miss as many possible appearances in 6 games as Matusz would in 8.

All of which is ridiculous.

I know the organization is starved for hitters, but there are some highly-regarded college pitchers that are sliding--Buehler, Funkhouser, Harris. Should the O's take one of them?

I agree regarding not expecting much out of any draft pick, from any team. As far as HS pitchers... I don't care as long as the guys pan out.
