Very good article. I just think you either take the Atlanta route or you let the draft pick compensation stop you. There is little use in being in the middle. Either trade guys and build the future or try to compete. Next year we will be the same situation with the pick # 11-15 and they will be saying they don't want to lose it. Only next year, there won't be a great FA class anyway.

Were they ever on track to improve pitching this year?

I think either Latos or Fister would be an improvement over Norris last year. Gausman has to step up and the rest of the rotation have to be at least career average.
