Some impressions of Mark Trumbo

It is depressing that you agree he might have already cost 3-4 runs in the field during the second week of the season.

And of course more depressing yet is the chorus to extend him, based on those same two weeks.

Chorus? Read the responses in this thread and tell me how many people are in that chorus.

Just because I think Trumbo has cost us 3-4 runs on defense in the first two weeks doesn't mean I think he'll do that every two weeks. Just like I don't think he'll hit 70 homers.

Let me preface this with, this is not a reactionary thread. We all had a good idea that he would be able to put up some numbers in OPACY.

What do you think it would take to extend Trumbo early to All Star Break? He seems to mesh really well with the group, and the guy can flat out crush the ball.

The team made the mistake before of not signing Nelson Cruz. I suspect history repeats itself. But it really really helps the lineup to have a dude that can mash right-handed behind Chris Davis. I don't know if Adam Jones is that guy either.

Trumbo gets 5 years 85 million if he keeps this up.

In which case, they'll extend the QO and say "thank you for the season you gave us". Can't pay everybody.

This. Plus you can't keep him in RF for the duration of the contract or you will lose value. Might be more amenable if Mancini wasn't down in AAA knocking on the door.

Some folks did. Others thought it was a horible deal and wanted to DFA him before his full contract was vested.

A .410babip, despite no change in his batted ball profile he's hitting more soft contact than ever before and yet still putting up a career high 22.2%HR/FB. Enjoy the hot streak for what it is, don't invest in something that is impossible to sustain.

Calling for a likely expensive extension based on a month of data in general is pretty poor practice, I would say. In any player's case.

Im not saying he is going to be a .340 hitter and hit 50 HR. I am saying he will prove to be an asset to this team and seems to be a great teammate.

Mancini could come up for right and Trumbo to DH next year.

He won't get anything close to that.

Would be putting 2/20-25 on the table, but he'll probably get more/want to test what's out there.

I said if he continues at this level. If he doesn't, he'll get closer to 4/48. Your numbers are nowhere close.

    • I don't want the O's to lose much, but I do want there to be a massive streaming deal with Amazon or some other company the O's are left out of.  This blackout nonsense is bullsh!t. 🤬
    • God said he hates domed stadiums.  I hope everyone in the area who could left.
    • The O's need a #1 pitcher, an ace. I see 3 possibilities: 1.  Sign Sasaki.  Will he even be posted?  Would likely want to go to a west coast team. 2.  Snell.  Chance of injury, but when he is on, he is maybe the best pitcher in the game.  Maybe offer him a 5 year/$200 million deal.  Will that be enough?   3.  Trade for Crochet.  Crochet was maybe the best pitcher in baseball the 1st half of the season.  Lefty w a 99 mph fastball w lots of movement.  If the O's trade for him, they need to sign to an extension.  Can you do that if you haven't signed any players to extensions?  I'm imagining it won't go over to well in the Clubhouse if the O's trade for a player and extend him and don't extend Gunnar and Adley (players aren't looking at aging curves of catchers).
    • Funny thing is, if the O's win, I'm generally so psyched on my way out that I don't even notice all of these annoyances. I'm just happy that the team won. That was my experience a lot this year when the team was doing well. Unfortunately about half of my 13 game season ticket plan was in August and September, plus I got to watch one of the pathetic WC games. You can smooth over a fair bit of fan annoyance with winning, but at the end of the day, someone has to care about the little things and actually invest money to make them better. There's no longer any question about whether the O's will be here to stay. The government and the team are aligned: OPACY and the Orioles are here, and we're going to make the best of what we have, and make it a centerpiece of Baltimore. That's great. But now they have to put their money where their mouths are. Show fans from all walks of life that we are able to reimagine OPACY and the surrounding area in the image of an efficient, clean, 21st century facility, starting with things as basic as infrastructure and plumbing, and ranging as far as parking, public trans, and food at the park. Honestly? I sort-of understood why they weren't investing in anything in the years when (1) the team was bad, and (2) ownership wasn't invested in the team, and (3) the renewal of the lease with the Maryland Stadium Authority was in doubt. The vast majority of points (1), (2) and (3) above are now non-issues, or have been majorly mitigated in the past 2 years. So it's time to make things right. Otherwise why bother with the long-term commitment at all, if you're just going to let the project languish?
