People tend to believe that by representing something as an opinion that it's acceptable and not questionable, but the problem with that is some opinions are formed based on facts and data while others are just empty thoughts void of support. In baseball conversations, it doesn't really matter, but the issue goes well beyond sports chatter. We as a society make baseless claims that are clearly refutable by science, statistics or other data, but because it's packaged as an opinion, some view that a baseless opinion is as valid as one that's routed in facts and support. I don't buy in to that logic.

As the clich? goes it's a free country, you can have any opinion you want. Just don't equate pure opinion with more grounded work that folks have done the hard work and the math and the research to form conclusions on. The work isn't always right, but if you have integrity you'll correct when necessary and it's a heck of a lot better than spouting off opinions based on almost nothing.
