Pretty good article on Means here. He worked on ticking up his velocity over the winter and was able to gain several mph.    That’s something you don’t see every day.

I wish Steve would have asked him how one does that while not endangering their arm.

88-90 to 91-95 is a big jump...what's the catch? Don't wanna be too much of a cynic, but if it were that easy everyone would go get their 3-4 mph hike.

That was not his velocity last year. He was a pretty solid 90-92 last year from what I heard and was 90-93 a few starts I saw him on video.

Why isn’t Means considered heavily for the rotation?  Good ST. One bad outing(first?). Lots of Ks. Left Handed. Improved Velo.

Who is 4 & 5?  Wright and ....   Has Wright really earned it other than a “lucky” 3.06 ERA?  The rest of the numbers don’t look good at all.

I will not get too hung up on who the 5th starter is.   Rogers, Hess, Means, Ramirez all have service time issues.  They are all going to spend some time in AAA some time this season.   Probably before July with the O's trying to move Cobb, Cashner and maybe even Bundy.  After that they will need all of them in the majors plus Karns as a starter if he can handle it.

Wright is not about winning.  He is a place holder. He gets a chance in the rotation and if that doesn't work in the pen.  If that doesn't work good bye.

None of those pitchers are good enough to have any concern whatsoever about their service time.

They nor we know that.   With he analytics some of them may take a jump.  And sure we don't expect them to be TOR starters but the team will need 3's and 4's also.  Some could end up in the pen as long men.   We have no idea whether they will be with the O's in 6 years.  Or if the extra year will make their trade value go up.

Look at Givens.   He is established in the majors now.   They probably can't send him to the minors if he keeps pitching well.   He will be a free agent after 2021.   He has 3.069  in service time.   If they could send him down and got another year of service time would it increase his value?   If they could have done it a year or two ago it might have increase what the O's can get for him.

We don't know what will happen with Means, Rogers, Hess or Ramirez but considering that the O's are going to lose big this year there is no reason not to get the extra year by sending them down.

We pretty much know who these pitchers are.   You’ve been an Orioles fan too long if you think they’re anything more than marginal major leaguers.

It’s seemed like Means and Yac have had big ST, but then you look at the numbers and they’ve only appeared in 7 and 8 IP respectively. Meanwhile Yefry and Rogers have 12 and 15 IP. Might tell us who they view to make the 25, or as we learned ST stats mean nothing with the OD roster.

I think it’s time to just make Yac and full time reliever and see what he can do. He can still do multi inning stints but just don’t bounce the guy around.

The defense around Yacabonis looks terrible tonight.

Fixed it for you.

Martin couldn't handle a ball hit by Tavares and couldn't turn the double play later and Carlos Perez is doing awful behind the plate with 2 passed balls, a wild throw, and couldn't corral a 3rd strike.

True, but he also didn't help himself out too much, he walked two batters.
