From much of what I have read and heard, a lot of child actors/stars have had that problem ........ producers/directors/writers couldn't get past what they were known for in the star roles which made them famous in the first place, and were subsequently hesitant to think about casting them in different types of roles.

In the ballplayer's case the issue is that they can't play other roles. They're typecast because of a very specific skill set. A 38-year-old DH is Steve Buscemi.

We've been terrible this year at evaluating talent in our own system.

Andrew Triggs- DFA'd in ST after a bad outing. Had options. Has had success with Oakland and even made some starts. There were other guys that should have went off the 40 man before him. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/triggan01.shtml

Ariel Miranda- Even though he got hit around by Cano, Cruz, and Smith during his one outing with SEA, he looked good. A lefty that can touch low 90's with a split. He could have at least been a bullpen arm. I know we didn't have too much flexibility in the pen but wow. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/miranar01.shtml

Trey Mancini- Should have been up here and had a look before now. Too many AB's went to Reimold, who only had a hot April then cooled down.

Dariel Alvarez- Is he really not better than Drew Stubbs? Enough said.

Chance Sisco- This one is a little reaching, but you see a what a guy like Benintendi can do for a club. This team has desperately needed a spark and a different approach at the plate. Sisco could have DH'd some, caught some, we should have taken a look at his bat.

These are just the minor leaguers. I don't feel like opening the MLB moves from the offseason and trade deadline, this is enough for me right now. I'm not talking about the Corban Joseph's and Andy Oliver's off the world. Other than Triggs these guys were our best "prospects" in AAA/AA. Someone dropped the ball here. DD or Buck? Maybe Buck doesn't trust rookies. Either that or DD had a terrible year evaluating talent.

Reimold had 13 PH at bats. He has had zero at bats at DH this year. How exactly did Reimold take at bats away from Mancini?

vs LHP what our lineup should have been post July 31

Jones CF

Pearce LF

Machado 3B

Trumbo RF

Davis 1b

Schoop 2B

Mancini DH

Wieters C

Hardy SS

Sub in D.Alvarez for injured Pearce if you want. There was plenty of room to get Mancini AB's. Reimold and Stubbs should have gotten close to zilch once September started.

If the team gave Fowler what he wanted and didn't sign Chris Davis or Alvarez we could have DH'd Trumbo played Mancini at first and Fowler in Right. That is a better and cheaper team IMHO.

Your first sentence is certainly true. And it is also scary...
