For $9 mil for Trumbo (who fWAR has at 1.9), and the chance to slap a QO on him and get a draft pick, I think the team did just fine. If Markakis was offered to the O's for 2 years at his remaining $22M, I would pass. Plus we got to unload a racist backup catcher in the process.

His fWAR is 1.1, because he has a UZR/150 of 0 and a positional adjustment of -7. His DRS not only is very different than his UZR, it's also his best mark since he was in his early 20s.

I think that is debatable. Trumbo has 30 some additional homers, but Nick gets on base more, hits more doubles, and is a better defender. Manny would probably have an additional 10-15 RBI. The best evidence says they're very close in production.

When we are smart and play Trumbo at DH he has way more value than Nicky (wOBA .321 vs .355).

I haven't seen Nick play much in the last two years, but the version I saw from 2006-14 was miles better than Trumbo as a defender, and I suspect that is still the case. I know there was a lot of debate about Nick's defense while he was here, but anyone with a pair of eyes could see that Nick was much better.
