In 2005, the Chicago White Sox swept the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the playoffs, en route to their first World championship in 88 years.

In 2016, the Cleveland Indians swept the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the playoffs ......... they have not won a world championship in 68 years.

Will history repeat itself ???

Nope. Cubs are the best team AND they have a horseshoe up their you-know-what's. Lethal combination.

Give me an Indians-Cubs World Series. Somebody's streak will end. Would be entertaining.

The Tribe adding to an already lovely 2016 for cleveland (excpet for the Browns, who I'm convinced will not win a game this year) or do we see Cubs nation become red sox nation post 2004 2.0

I know a few Cubs fans. Some are terrific baseball fans. But there are others that will be insufferable because they already are that bad. It's the ones that will come out of the woodwork and onto the bandwagon that will be so tiresome. I'm was mildly pulling for the Giants to make it interesting for the Cubs. As long as Fowler's a Cub, I can't get behind them. I'm about 45 minutes behind in that game.

Oh, and thank you Indians for burying the Red Sox & Papi.

I can stand Fowler, even though it pisses me off what happened. It's a struggle because do you want to see Cubs fans turn into Red Sawx nation 2.0, or hear this even year BS from Giants fans.

It makes a big difference to me that the Orioles don't play the Cubs 19 times a season.

It's a tough call. One of the more obnoxious Red Sox fans I know has adopted the Giants in recent years since his work takes him to SF. I kid him that he could have picked a lousy team as his mistress, but no, he had to pick a team that's also won 3 World Series in recent years. Typical front runner.

    • According to the MLB standings, The Red Sox are only 6-12 against teams that are better than .500. Shockingly (I know this is about the AL East), but the maybe the AL East isn't presently the beast it usually is. The Central which has been lousy for a while appears to be much stronger. All but one team are over .500. Big change.
    • Yep, Holliday is still scuffling a bit.  Mayo is going to have to kick down the door for him to push Westburg.  There have got to be teams out there looking to poach Norby.  Can’t imagine he is still here at the deadline.
    • He is one of my favorite guys on the team. So happy for him. He didn’t moan when he got sent down last year.  He was grinding over the winter to get better and is working with someone on the mental side. Just a great story and now a guy that has forced his way into the rotation.
    • He is a great story. We will have to continue to make room for him because he is the 90% outcome for many behind him.
    • I think Cal's record was able to happen because of a time in O's history when there was no strong manager.  I doubt Cal's streak would have made it to one season if he had played his whole season under Weaver.  Weaver was way ahead of his time on matchups, platoons and resting players.  The  bigger thing about Cal's streak, imo was that it was allowed to happen, where it took on a life of it's own, dwarfing the team.  I'm not diminishing the feat, but there's rarely a player that plays 162 games in a year now.  It's just recognized that people wear down and need rest.  I want to say to that probably the 5 players behind Cal on the streak list did things to basically cheat and prolong their streak especially Gehrig, where he would hit once and then not play the rest of the game.
    • Goes right back to Ted Williams. Get a good pitch to hit and drive it.
    • There was an attempt to debunk this article in the other O'Hearn thread where it's the OP, but in it O'Hearn explains that his efforts to change launch angle and severely limit when he swings underlie the improved performance since coming to the Orioles.
