He had two years and 151 days of service time coming into the year according to baseball-reference. One year of service time is equivalent to 172 days. That means he should have reached three full years of service time some time in late April. The only way to delay Gausman's free agency date would be by sending him down to the minors for pretty much the entire season.

Good call. I misunderstood the designation on BR. I read 2.172 as 2 + .172/1.
