Dan Duquette.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that no other team this year has had discussions with other teams about trading their draft pick.

We've attached this pick to Ubaldo and probably contacted every team. Something may happen. A team will bite. Just a matter of how much of Ubaldo's remaining salary will we have to eat.

Ubaldo, #74, plus cash(4 million) to team? for a PTBNL.

How much do teams think the dollar value of the #74 pick is?

Really? Look I'm not a fan of trading picks either, and I know it's not the NFL or the NBA, but these are tradeable assets. I'd be surprised if those conversations don't happen, at least at a cursory level.

What other teams have traded one?

I stand corrected....thought it was none.  Thanks to Aglets for the pull, above.

I'm not saying it's necessarily likely that another team decides to move a draft pick; I'm just saying I'd be surprised if other teams haven't at least had discussions about doing so.  Figuring out ways to improve their club is a front office's job, and you'd think they'd consider all possible ways to do so, even if they decide it isn't ultimately in their best interests.  As I said, these are tradeable assets, and everything has a price.

I guess I was being a little nitpicky with you, but I think your statement that we're the only team that would discuss (gasp) trading a draft pick seems like a little much.

All this, of course, is not to say that I hope we trade that pick....I hope we hang on to it and add another promising young player.

Lol....a question to which you already know the answer...

Sure, I was exaggerating a bit.  I'm sure at some level it is mentioned as a possibility.  But I don't think teams other than the O's view it as a worthwhile option.

How many teams get a competitive balance pick, and of those, how many were contenders?   (Not a rhetorical question; I don't know the answer.)

Fourteen and that would depend on the definition of contender.  However, I'm not sure how not being a contender would stop a team from making a trade that is in their best interest.

The Orioles have been one of the least viable franchises to pull off a run like the last five seasons. I know the Cardinals have gotten some picks because of their market. They've not sold them though.
