Miley and Ubaldo's last chance

I can't see the reason for pitching Ubaldo if the team is going for it this year or throwing in the towel and building for next year.  He won't be here next year and stresses the bullpen most of his starts.  The O's need to give starts to pitchers who can fill our 5th and maybe 4th starter positions next year, since I don't believe they will sign more than 1 dependable free agent starter.

Miley and Ubaldo have used up all there chances to be starters for this team in my opinion.   Its time for O's management to act before their slots come up in the rotation in 4 or 5 days.

I can see Miley getting a few more starts, but it is time for Ubaldo. I think two starts after the break to confirm (shocker) he is still miserable is plenty. DFA him, give him away, put him to work at Boog's....it doesn't matter. Bring up Aquino and give him an extended look to see if you can pencil him in as part of next year's rotation. He's never going to be great I don't think, but maybe he'll be passable.

A lot of times the saying "it/he can't be worse" is an exaggeration...this time it's not. Aquino, please.

I'll take Aquino, Bleier or Asher. Or, Or someone that Dan trades for. And it does not have to be big name.  Just someone that can be a good 4th or 5th starter.

If this team is going to make the playoff Tillman, Bundy and Gausman have to come through as the top 3 guys.

Concur. I'm debating driving to Tampa for Wednesday's game but the thought of spending the time and money only to be forced to watch one of them pitch is pretty depressing.

We just need to be ready to watch Ubaldo for 7-3 with a 3.5 down the stretch for an NL team though. You know it's going to happen.

I am thinking since Angelos is so loyal he may let Ubaldo remain on the team till the end of the season.

I think Ubaldo has been so bad that no MLB team would touch him except for a minor league contract. He does not fit for a rebuilding team and definitely not for a contending team. If he somehow turns into the next Arrieta...so it goes.

Tillman's ERA...     7.20

Ubaldo's ERA...     7.19

Gausman's ERA ...6.11

Miley's ERA ...       5.58

Who needs to Go?

All of them? Start with younger arms? Maybe keep Gausman and make him closer.

It had to have been two months ago or so, Dave Johnson and Tom Davis were talking in the post game how Ubaldo is the baseball version of a cat with 9 lives. He continues to get countless chances. Just hoping the team can get at least one win with these two going the next 2 days. Ubaldo should have a real quick hook on Wednesday if he gets in trouble as there is a off day Thursday.

While Miley has had success against the rays career wise, he's a horrible pitcher this year and this is a much more potent rays lineup. As they say, Buckle up.

It's time to get Tyler Wilson and Jayson Aquino up here. Or Alec Asher or whoever. They may not be particularly good MLB pitchers but they'd give us a chance to win more often than Miley and Jimenez. It's gone on long enough and if we're going to have two black holes in the rotation I'd at least rather they be younger guys who might have the advantage of being unfamiliar to the hitters.

Time to give up on this season and either shut down Dylan Bundy or give him a lot of time before starts until he gets to 150 IP or whatever, move Miley and Ubaldo to the bullpen or DFA, rotation of Gausman, Tillman, and 3 of Aquino/Asher/Wright/Ynoa/Bundy.

No more Miley, Jiminez, Wright, or Wilson, please.

    • I honestly think there is very little difference in most the teams that made the playoffs.  The most wins was 98 wins and there was 12 teams with 86 wins or more.  It also seems that many of the teams are on the same page with scouting and analytics now hitting wise.  Years back you had moneyball which the A’s used before anyone else.  Then the Astros and few teams started with analytics and seemed to be ahead of the rest of the league but they have caught up now imo.  Now the move seems to be on launch angle and hitting homers by getting the ball in the air but that seems to be across the league.  Obviously some teams have more money and more talented players but the strategy seems about the same.  The main differences I see is in pitching in the playoffs which is bullpen games and using openers rather then a starter to go 7 innings and carry your team to win now a slight sign of trouble they are taking them out.  With all these short inning guys and pitching them in certain pockets we are seeing very little offense and the hitting with runners in scoring position has been awful.  It all comes down to RISP at bats and getting 1 or 2 big base hits in those situations.  We just haven’t been able to get those hits so far in short series.
    • And we've seen similar with Kjerstad. Kjerstad might be the best pure hitting prospect in the Orioles system of recent years besides Gunnar. I want to see him playing everyday next year is possible none of this sitting him versus LHP more often than not. These prospects need to get their reps and stop treating them like John Lowenstein and Benny Ayala.
    • I don’t see Elias trading off prospects anymore at least top guys.  We have moved a few guys in last year and I expect they try to build that back up.  They should have money to use if they want to add talent.
    • Blah, well Rob Manfred has to be happy along with Fox network. A Yankees-Mets World Series match up is still on the table and the Dodgers as well if they win tomorrow. I knew the Royals would get jettisoned by the Yankees without too much of a fight.
    • For Mountcastle …Maybe Chase Petty and Tristan Smith?
    • I’m guessing they ask for Mayo or Basallo of Kjerstad. For me …I’d give them Kjerstad since he’s defensively challenged IMO. Maybe Kjerstad, McDermott, Beavers, and O’Ferrall?
    • 192 wins in two seasons is a pretty strong argument to stay the course.  That said, I wonder if the young players wouldn't be better off long-term if the scientific matchups took a back seat to the raw talent a little more than we've seen.  Overthinking something can be a thing you know.
