Since the franchise arrived from St. Louis in 1954 and changed their name to the Orioles, only the Yankees, the Red Sox, and the Tigers have collectively hit 10,000 or more home runs as a team.

At the moment, the Orioles (1954-Present) are sitting at 9,982.

Of those 9,982 Home Runs, 254 were with the bases loaded.

Of those 254 Grand Slams, 74 were hit at Memorial Stadium and 73 were hit at OPACY.  The next Grand Slam at OPACY will tie the Memorial Stadium record of 74.

Of those 73 Grand Slams at OPACY, Chris Hoiles and Cal Ripken each have 5.  Chris Davis with his next Grand Slam at OPACY will tie those two for the record at OPACY as he has 4 now.

Wow, that really goes to show you how much more frequent home runs have become.    We played at Memorial Stadium for 38 seasons, compared to 26 for OPACY.

Timmy also hit the 2500th HR at OPACY.

But Buck asked the other day, "Who hit the first?"  Anyone?  In 1954, the Orioles only won 57 games and hit only 49 total homers for the season.  A few quick searches did not reveal who actually hit the first homer for the Orioles.  Joe Durham, who recently passed and was the first African American Oriole, hit one that season.

Another factoid, Vic Wertz of Baltimore was traded in June '54 to the Cleveland franchise, who won the pennant but lost famously to Willie Mays and my NY Giants in the Series.  Wertz hit the fly ball to deep CF which Say Hey snagged.

Saw that but failed to see that Clint Courtney, of Hoyt Wilhelm fame, hit the first!  Thanks!

Only 49 hit for the entire '54 season!

Yeah, looking at the box score of that game, the thing that jumped out at me was the attendance.   Over 46,000.   One Game 3 of the season.   You don't see that anymore.   Opening Day sellout and then the rest of the opening series is often some of the least attended games of the season.   I guess people were really excited to have big league baseball back in Baltimore.
