Calamity Porn

So, for me, watching the Orioles right now has become something that I'm going to call Calamity Porn.  Calamity porn is when you watch something SO horrendously bad that is actually becomes--paradoxically-- enjoyable.

Now I want to firstly say I pull for the O's to win every game.. have all my life.  Probably always will.  With that said...

Has anyone started to become weirdly enamored with just how poorly this team can play?  I've started to.. heck when I cannot watch the games for whatever reason, I tell my wife, "Going to check to see how much we've lost by today."

It's like when you watch one of the various almost-perfect-game-games that opposing pitchers throw against us.  You send the entire game desperately wishing we knock a few out or just get a few hits.. do not let us actually get no-hit.. But then.. but then, something starts to change.  Maybe you'll get to see a perfect game?

CAN Chris Davis actually strike out 5 times.. again?

What bone-headed throw is Santander going to make on this play?

Surely we can't give back the single run we've scored.. for the 4th time this game?

Hey, we made contact.. how is Manny going to get thrown out on the bases this game?

Will a run get on the board via a wild pitch or passed ball?

Is this the game where Tillman gets removed with a 0.0 innings pitched?

I could go on, but you get the point.  In a sort of masochistic way, I'm finding myself fascinated with exactly how bad we're playing.  I don't like it.  I want to win every game 162-0, but here's where I find myself...

The best thing about Orioles baseball is that it's there for you almost every single night.

I take comfort in that, even when they're a complete dumpster fire.

I find myself hoping tradeable assets perform well, yet our overall horrendous performance opens the curtains a little further towards the obvious need for a rebuild.  Then it becomes a waiting game to see how long the front office hides behind its shroud of mystery before they make (if they make) any response to this obvious need, driving me into a fit of madness.

I am slipping more in the prospect watching, slightly detached mindset that I had for about a decade of Orioles games. If I don't do something to remove myself, then it's not good for my family life. Nothing worse than getting all ticked off at the Orioles while watching the game and then being grumpy all evening.

I watch cause it's on and it helps pass the time.  I'm watching for individual performances.  Watching cause this is the last time we'll see Manny in an Orioles uniform.

This is me too. Hopefully, as the ineptitude continues we get to see some of the kids come up and do well which will be enjoyable.

I refuse to give in to the last statement knowing that it is likely.
