Batting Leaders 1983-Present

I decided to go back to the last World Series team, which for some of you was before you were born.  If you look at the names, it's also a trip down memory lane.  Billy Ripken actually led the team in BA one season, while his brother led in HR and RBI.   @Frobby's hero Markakis featured prominently 2007-10 (5X batting avg leader).  Murray and Palmeiro each led the club in HRs 4 times, and also RBIs 5 times each. 

Yeah, some of this is to kick the 2018 team yet another time. Case in point, Machado's team leading 65 RBI for this season is the lowest total and that includes two strike-shortened seasons.  ManNY far and away led the club in BA/HR/RBI/ OPS despite being a Dodger since August.  If you take Manny out of 2018, the leaders are BA Jones .281; HR Mancini 24; RBI Jones 63; OPS Trumbo .764.  Trumbo's .764 OPS would also be a team low for a Manny-less ballclub, and Jones' .281 BA the second lowest.

Same with the year that Ripken hit .340, IIRC.

I remember when Billy Ripken lead the team in batting average, 9 year old Moose Milligan thought he'd finally become a good hitter.  Me and my parents used to call him "Big Lumber Bill" in a sarcastic tone.  I thought it was hilarious.

I remember Vlad being terrible for us, absolutely would have never remembered him hitting .290.

Vlad hit really well at the end so his numbers didn’t look bad.

Yup.  Vlad hit .349 in the last month of his one season as an Oriole.

I had forgotten how well Eric Davis hit for us in his comeback stint of ‘97 and ‘98. He was never a great fielder, but what an electric player in his prime.
